#MeToo Rally - Moving Beyond the Hashtag

The organizers of the Women's March in Edmonton are planning a rally on March 10th at the Alberta Legislature.

Addressing the question: How do we move #beyondthehashtag? and in honour of International Women’s Day, they will rally in support of the strong survivors who added their voice to #metoo and demonstrate that any act of harassment or assault is wrong.

Guest speakers at the event include AASAS CEO Deb Tomlinson, award-winning human rights activist Chevi Rabbit, Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, MP for Edmonton Mill Woods and Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Kristin Raworth a sexual violence advocate and survivor.

Watch for more details and please share the FaceBook event information far and wide.
ACE Accreditation

AASAS is very excited to announce they have been approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.

Social workers who attend the First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse training, between now and November 29, 2018, should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits. Social workers participating in this course will receive 13 continuing education clock hours.
Training Facilitators

AASAS is hosting two Train the Facilitator sessions in 2018 for First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse training.

There has been a great response to this opportunity - particularly from post secondary institutions in Alberta. Participants will spend five days at Camp Kindle. Located just outside of Water Valley, Camp Kindle offers 160 acres of rolling hills, forest and waterways. It's the perfect location for participants to immerse themselves in the training.

The sessions will take place in March and June.

Having more facilitators will allow AASAS to provide more education around a positive response to disclosures of sexual violence, and continue to build a culture of believing in Alberta where survivors feel safe to tell and seek help.

What will Participants Learn?

This training is intended to build the capacity of professionals, paraprofessionals and community members to assess and respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault and sexual abuse. First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training™ is a comprehensive two day training, inclusive of the full continuum of sexual violence and across the lifespan.

Upcoming training dates:
Bonnyville March 1-2 (Private training)
