Quite a crowd - owners and members of Foxtrot Racing visiting the yard in February

The Festival is almost here!

Dear Friends,

With under a fortnight to go the excitement is building. Ask anyone connected with racing and they'll all tell you there's nothing quite like the Cheltenham Festival. It’s the Olympics of our sport and it's no secret that Cheltenham carries a special place in our hearts for so many reasons.

Whilst we only have a small team going this year they have all come through their preparations really well and are full of confidence, fresh and well going into The Festival itself.

We were delighted to see Spice Girl, once again, defy the odds to win her fifth race this season on 1st Feb at Towcester, setting her up nicely for her intended race on Festival day three - race report and replay to enjoy below.

Brillaire Momento struck at Towcester a week later, again see below for the full report. This leaves her with three possible races at The Festival, and we know she loves it there having won on both the Old and New courses in 2017.

Finally Buckle Street took the laurels at Doncaster on February 22nd leaving him with a possible shot at the Coral Cup or Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Hurdle.  However, he may not be quite high enough in the handicap to get into those races as they are often very oversubscribed so we’ll play it by ear with him and he may have more suitable options elsewhere anyway.

And, as ever, give us a call if you'd like to discuss any aspect of ownership or arrange a visit to view any of the new arrivals.

A Huge Thank You

We can't thank all our staff enough for their hard work, resilience and dedication in seriously cold temperatures this week - you can see from these shots the sort of conditions they've had to get through just to come to work...

As many of you know we were delighted to be shortlisted for the Lycetts Team Champion Award. We travelled up to London on 23rd February to the I.O.D for the winners of each category to be announced. Whilst we didn't ultimately win we were thrilled to be shortlisted - congratulations to Nick Alexander and his team at Kinneston who won the under 40 horse category this year.

Goodbye and thank you Jamie

We bid farewell to our Assistant Trainer Jamie Goldstein after nearly 5 years working with us at Condicote Stables.  Always first in and last out of the yard, reliable and unflappable in a crisis too.

Although Jamie retired from race-riding when he joined us we persuaded him back into the saddle in October 2016 and he showed he'd lost none of his style or ability when he rode the rest of the 'Legends' to sleep in the Bob Champion Legends Charity race to win cosily on Viking Mistress.

Jamie is moving back to be nearer his family in Sussex and we are so grateful to him for all his hard work and dedication whilst with us and for his part in helping us become the thriving yard we are. We all wish him the very best for the future.

Following Jamie's decision we are delighted to announce that Foxy (Matthew Carter) will be taking on the Assistant's role. He has had plenty of time with Jamie to ensure a seamless handover.

#FreddieAsks

We've sent our roving reporter Freddie Keighley to ask some tough questions of the stars of racing as he begins his first season of Pony Racing - so far personailities including Nick Luck, Oli Bell, Colin Tizzard, Aidan Coleman, Tim Vaughan, Robbie Supple and Barry Geraghty have all been great sports and have shared their pearls of wisdom.

Keep checking on our YouTube Channel, Twitter and Facebook pages for more great #FreddieAsks content, and if you have a burning question you'd like Freddie to ask the stars of racing - why not let us know?

Presenting

Presenting sadly died in August last year and since then his stock seem to be even more sought after and they are fetching decent amounts at the Sales.  We were therefore delighted when Gerry Hogan bought this fellow for us from the Doncaster Store Sale last spring.  He has been brought along steadily in Ireland by P.J. Colville and we are thrilled with the job he has done with him.

Famous sons of Presenting include Yorkhill, First Lieutenant, War Of Attrition, Denman and Ballabriggs.  Dam line contains high-quality NH horses such as Dato Star, Fairy Rath and Hoh Invader.

For sale solely or to go into a syndicate. The plan is to start him off in bumpers on decent ground in the spring.

It's Five for Spice Girl

Spice Girl continues to mine a rich vein of form, adding to her previous four wins this season at Towcester in the starsportsbet.co.uk Mares' 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle, under Harry Stock.

She tracked the leaders before asserting herself three out, staying on well and winning by 2 & 1/4 lengths.

We're very pleased for Richard Davis & Mark Holland, owners of this fabulous mare who now have a runner in The Festival to savour.

Brillaire shines again!

A week later and it's back to Towcester with Brillaire Momento who showed great character to land the Follow Us On Twitter At starsports_bet Handicap Hurdle under Harry Stock.

The bay mare made plenty of the initial running, and stayed up with the leaders until three out where she gamely took the front again - it was heartening to see her stay on well despite plenty of pressure in a hot race, winning by 1 & 1/4 lengths.

Again this should give her plenty of confidence going into The Festival.

Buckle Street Bounces Back!

Buckle Street bounced back from his unfortunate Ascot blip with a gutsy performance at Doncaster in the Alan Wood Plumbing And Heating Ltd Handicap Hurdle, Harry Stock on board.

He stayed mid-division for much of the early part of the race before pushing on three out, taking the lead at the last and showing a lot of grit on the run in to win by 1 & 1/4 lengths

Congratulations to owners The Condicote Clan, and there's a chance of a run at The Festival, fingers crossed he gets into one of the two possible races he is entered for.

Memories of The Duke

Martin and Belinda were recently interviewed by Star Sports' Simon Nott who asked them about their early career with David 'The Duke' Nicholson and the transition into training. If you know some of the story and want to find out some more, it makes fascinating viewing - not least for the colourful anecdotes!
