 I was excited in the course of the past week, to rub minds with one of the brains behind max.ng a motorcycle hailing service in Nigeria which is positioned to be the uber on two wheels. This is coming immediately after my interaction with the promoter of the nnu.ng domain name.
I am excited that many more entrepreneurs are making the .ng the domain of choice for launching their business into the Nigerian market. At the moment, with over 100,000 active .ng domain names, this is far below our target and we can not be comfortable with this number.
NiRA has been at the forefront of the development of the Domain Name Industry in Nigeria. We have made considerable progress in growing the numbers, as is evident from the growth figures we see. The need for all our Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SMEs) to have online identity using .ng country code Top Level Domain (.ng ccTLD) for their websites, email communications and other online activities. SUMMARY OF AFRINIC27 POLICY MEETING HOSTED BY NIRA IN LAGOS, NIGERIA
AFRINIC-27 took place in Lagos Nigeria, from 27 November to 1 December 2017.
The meeting was organised by AFRINIC and generously hosted by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) from 27 th November 2017 to 1 st December 2017. Over 260 people took part in training sessions, policy development discussions, plenary sessions, and networking events. Some key highlights of the event included discussions on policies guiding Internet number resource distribution in Africa, Big Data and impact on African businesses, Higher Education and Technology, efforts to strengthen key internet infrastructure to keep content local as well as the adoption of IPv6 and AFRINIC governance.
The sponsors at the event include Main One, Google, ICANN, Internet Society, North Africa and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Galaxy Backbone, VDT Communications, Garanntor Hosting, Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria and Medallion Communications. Implementation policy for "#IPv4 Resources Transfer within the AFRINIC service region"
22 February 2018 - AFRINIC announced the policy "IPv4 Resources Transfer within the AFRINIC service region" has been implemented.
The policy is incorporated in Section 5.7 of the Consolidated Policy Manual

Nigeria not reaping economic benefits of Internet — Rudman
 Mr. Muhammad Rudman as the Chief Executive Officer of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria spoke on the economic benefits of localising Internet traffic at a recent interview with Punch Newspaper.
He discussed the role of IXPN in the telecommunications industry, highlighting that IXPN’s role is to provide the physical infrastructure to interconnect all Internet service providers, telecommunications companies, educational institutions and all Internet Protocol-centric organisations to exchange local traffic locally.
