A MONTH OF CANNONBALL ADDERLEY NIGHT ONE
Each week in March a different Cannonball Adderley album will be performed live at the Jazz Record Art Collective (JRAC). We kick off the month with the Lenard Simpson Quintet performing Adderley’s 1960 Blue Note release CANNONBALL QUINTET AT THE LIGHTHOUSE.
“Live at The Lighthouse was recorded in Hermosa Beach, California; October 16, 1960. It features Adderley’s brother and partner in crime, Nat Adderley on cornet, Victor Feldman who has just been added to the group on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Louis Hayes on drums. With a mixture of standards and originals by Cannonball himself and Victor Feldman, this album has all the ingredients that make it agreat record of its time."

Each week in March a different Cannonball Adderley album will be performed live at the Jazz Record Art Collective (JRAC). We kick off the month with back-to-back performances, the second being the John Wojciechowski Quintet performing Adderley’s 1966 release MERCY MERCY MERCY LIVE AT ‘THE CLUB’.
“…Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Live at "The Club”…received the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance – Group or Soloist with Group in 1967. Though the original liner notes state that it was recorded at the Club DeLisa in Chicago, it was actually recorded at Capitol's Hollywood studio with an invited audience and an open bar. The reason for this discrepancy, according to the liner notes in the CD reissue, is that Adderley and the new manager of Club DeLisa (which had been renamed "The Club", after operating for years in Chicago under its old name) were friends, and Adderley offered to give the club a bit of free publicity.”

Fulton Street Collective is proud to present the Ben Rosenblum Trio from NYC for an evening performance on Sunday, March 11.
"Award-winning jazz pianist, composer and accordionist Ben Rosenblum has been described as “mature beyond his years,” (Jon Neudorf, Sea of Tranquility), and as an “impressive talent” (C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz), who “caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits” (Bob Doerschuk, Downbeat Magazine). Ben is based primarily in New York City, and is a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard program (in 2016). His original music combines his extensive knowledge of the history of jazz with a free-wheeling, modern melodic sensibility and powerful narrative approach to the piano."

The Fulton Street Collectiver is proud to present a performance with Kane Mathis & Chad McCullough featuring Tim Seisser & Jon Deitemyer on Monday March 12. In addition to a stellar Chicago rhythm section, Mathis will be joined by trumpeter Chad McCullough. The two have worked together internationally for over a decade.

Kane Mathis Presents original material in ensemble format highlighting the 21-string West African Harp, Kora and the Middle-Eastern Lute, Oud. Kane has been studying kora and oud both for 20 years with some of the top performers in their respective traditions and is a recipient of the Earshot Jazz album of the year award and a Chamber Music America Award winner. He is also widely commissioned to create new works for media and modern dance and is an accompanist at New York University and Mark Morris Dance Center.

A MONTH OF CANNONBALL ADDERLEY NIGHT THREE
Our third installment is the Rajiv Halim Quintet performing Adderley’s 1959 release CANNONBALL ADDERLEY QUINTET IN CHICAGO.
“Cannonball Adderley “Quintet in Chicago” was recorded in February, 1959, at universal Recording's Studio B, Chicago, with Bernie Clapper, president of the firm, at the audio controls and released on Mercury records. It features Wynton Kelly on Piano, Paul Chambers on bass, Jimmy Cobb on drums and John Coltrane on Tenor saxophone. These sidemen were working with the Miles Davis Group at the Sutherland Hotel in 1959 at the time. Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane has such a personal sound that can be heard throughout the record, especially on “weaver of dreams” and ‘stars fell on Alabama.’”

Four visual artists showcase their work delineating one theme or impression. Our theme for March is “FEVER.”
Each artist will install their work based on "Fever" on one wall in our gallery as well as one moveable partition.
Webster's Dictionary, Fever: "bring about a high body temperature or a state of nervous excitement in (someone)"...is there emotion, color, vibe, nuance? Find out March 16!!! This month’s series features the work of four diverse artists with uniquely imaginative expressions and views.
Doors open at 7pm, closing at 10. Additional viewings can be made for Saturday March 17 & Sunday March 18 by appointment.
Our Featured Artists:
Betty is a multi- disciplinary artist, born & raised in Chicago. She illustrates and writes comics, as well as illustrating sounds at electronic and live music events.
Léona “Lisha” Perine
Léona has been creating art and short comics, and writing short stories since their youth with themes of horror at its heart. They took a new direction and began creating content for YouTube and their blog, as well as events under the name Lishamisha22 since 2009. While being a content creator online, they used these platforms to showcase the various components they customized or designed, from their nails to headpieces. Their favorite mediums are watercolour, pastels, denim, and leather.
Siena Peterson
Siena is a visual artist in Chicago. Her work consists mostly of abstract forms and figures, experimenting with color and texture. She is Currently studying Interdisciplinary Studies within the Arts, and Fine Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her work has been displayed at Figure One Gallery in Urbana, Champagne, as well as the Stream Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin.
Alex Puryear
Utilizing dazzling colors and bold strokes lines. Works embody contention between fluid and concrete, worldly and ethereal, austere, and indulgent, lends each piece a noticeably vibrant essence which can only come from melding such opposing ideologies.

Our fourth installment is the Ari Brown Quintet performing Adderley’s 1958 Blue Note release SOMETHING ELSE.
“The album was recorded during Adderley's membership in the Miles Davis Sextet of 1958, and is one of the few post-1955 appearances of Miles Davis as a sideman. Indeed, Davis plays several of the first solos, composed the bluesy title track and, according to the liner notes, chose most of the material.[4] "Autumn Leaves" would remain in the Davis book, and "Love for Sale" would be recorded by the Davis Sextet a little over two months later.”

Each week in March a different Cannonball Adderley album will be performed live at the Jazz Record Art Collective (JRAC). Our fifth and final installment is the Mike Smith Quartet performing Adderley’s 1959 release CANNONBALL TAKES CHARGE.
“In 1959, Cannonball Adderley recorded one of two quartet record, the other one being Know what I Mean? Cannonball Takes Charge was recorded in NY at Reeves Sound Studio. Tracks 1, 2, and 3 were recorded on April 27th, 1959, track 4 on April 23rd, and all others on May 12, 1959. The record features Wynton Kelly on Piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Three great musicians cannonball played with in the Miles’ sextet. Adderley switches things up by adding the great Percy Heath who was a member of the Modern Jazz Quartet and his young brother, Albert “Tootie” Heath on drums. With so much grit, there’s a reason this record in entitled “Cannonball Takes Charge.”
