Plastics is a subject that is always close to our heart and has become a hot topic in all our lives, thanks to David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II and much public debate and media coverage. We're becoming a Plastic Planet - from bottles and bags to plastic pots, tubs and trays, plastic has become part of everyday life. According to Recycle Now, 79% of the plastic waste ever created has ended up in our environment. But it doesn't have to! We can make choices to cut down on the plastic we use and make sure we responsibly recycle the plastic we do use. Spring Clean Litter Picks 
You might not have realised but Spring is officially here and the fabulous folk of Suffolk are once again taking up their litter picks to help keep Suffolk tidy and a great place to live! More than 1700 volunteers are already involved across the county giving their neighbourhoods a well-deserved spruce up and the Suffolk Waste Partnership is keen to support these community efforts with the loan of litter picking equipment.

Our Spring Cleaning pages  have everything you need to know about borrowing a litter-pick kit, a calendar for local events (or you can add your event to it!) and what to do with your litter once it is collected. If you don’t want to join a group you can always keep a watchful eye when going for a walk and bag up any litter you find while you are out and about. This county is full of such wonderful people!
Sign up for your garden waste collection in Suffolk Coastal
Suffolk Coastal District Council is introducing a charge for collecting garden waste starting in May this year. The fee for one bin is £43 per year (about £1.65 per fortnightly collection) and subscribers to the new Garden Waste Collection Scheme will still be able to put food waste in with their garden waste. The scheme is optional and those who choose not to subscribe will no longer have their garden waste collected from the beginning of May. You can of course opt in any time after this date.

It’s quick and easy to sign up online, or you can do it by phone or in person. Don't forget to say ‘YES’ to the upgrade for a free larger bin from Autumn 2018. Find out more about the scheme here.

If you choose not to join the optional Garden Waste Collection Scheme – then please compost! The Suffolk Waste Partnership funds a scheme making home compost bins available to all Suffolk residents at subsidised prices from as little as £8.99 for a 220 litre compost bin or £9.99 for a 330 litre bin. The scheme also includes subsidies on several composting systems which can deal with some cooked food waste. Find out how to order a home compost bin here.
Cleaning up our County!
We treat the subjects of litter and fly-tipping very seriously in Suffolk. Following a successful bid, the Suffolk Waste Partnership has been awarded £10,000 from the Government’s Litter Innovation Fund to run innovative local projects aimed at reducing litter across the county.
The project will include initiatives to work closely with local businesses, trial new style litter bins along key transport routes and a new public awareness campaign. It will also aim to clamp down on those responsible for dropping litter or for committing the criminal offence of fly-tipping.
All of us have a duty of care to make sure that our waste is disposed of correctly. A recent prosecution in Suffolk led to a fine of £830 when fly-tipped rubbish was traced back to a householder. It is your responsibility to make sure that anyone who removes any waste from your property is working in an official capacity and is an Authorised Waste Carrier. Thanks for your feedback about Suffolk's Recycling Centres
We would like to thank all those who completed our annual Customer Satisfacion Survey and are pleased to announce a 95% satisfaction rate from the 915 people that took part, with high ratings for cleanliness of our sites and the helpfulness of our hard-working staff. We will use the results and comments from the survey to develop an action plan to improve this service for the coming year. Find out more about what people said.
