Upcoming Reflections

March 18, 2018 - Warren Reinecke
The Value of Beauty
The Value of Beauty was a popular Finding Heart topic this year.  Warren will explore themes which emerged and relate some of the insights and inspirations shared by the participants.

March 25, 2018 - Rev. Christiane Heyde
Question Box Sunday
One way to have balanced sermon themes is to put the minister on the spot and ask the things YOU want to hear about. In her fourth Month of sabbatical ministry, Rev. Christiane is opening herself up to questions from the congregation.  Please feel free to email her questions in advance to csheyde@msn.com, or submit them Sunday morning, as we will test her ability to respond in the moment and still inspire our congregation.

April 1, 2018 - Rev. Ron Phares
Emerging Into Life
FLOWER COMMUNION & EASTER SUNDAY
Bring your flowers for a joyous celebration of diversity in community! We will reflect on the principle of emergence, the problem, promise, and consequence of consciousness, and the relationship between them and death, life, and justice. It's a lot. And its all good.

On Saturday, March 24 at 11 am, the community will gather at Jacome Plaza, 101 N Stone Ave, Tucson (near the Valdez Library). If you would like to participate and car pool, please come to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church by 9:30 that morning. There is parking near the site. March Woven Basket Recipient - Keep Tucson Together
This all-volunteer project has been working side by side with community members who are in immigration removal proceedings to assist in getting their cases closed.

Keep Tucson Together is an outgrowth of the We Reject Racism campaign.  It was designed to provide legal support to members of protection networks and the community at large. Our primary purpose is to stop deportations.  We work with a volunteer attorney to try and close cases through asylum claims, prosecutorial discretion, and as a last resort, launching public political campaigns to stop deportations. Using a variety of tools we have been able to stop 40 deportations of people living in Tucson.

Baja 4 UU's made our presence known at the
Tucson Festival of Books

Twenty-two volunteers shared bookmarks with booth visitors and 106 visitors signed up to participate in our book raffle!

Fifteen volunteers were from MVUU--Ann Marshall, Susan Calder, Beth Williams, Ann and Bob Bowling, Linda Hill, Starr Austin, Anne Leonard, Richard Kopp, Cynthia Chafee,  Kathy Kouzmanoff, Bob Wallace, and Derek Contreras.  The remaining seven volunteers represented the UUCT, Sky Island and Green Valley congregations.

Special thanks go to Mary Hoover who recruited all volunteers and helped at the Festival, Joe Bredau who helped us search for missing items, Kathy Kouzmanoff who ordered the books, and Elizabeth Van Horn who ensured we had bookmarks to offer. Pi Irwin and Zsombor Zoltan set and stayed close to our booth--just in case.
Bookaholics Unaninmous
We are a group of enthusiastic readers who meet on the last Tuesday of the month at 2PM. We select a variety of books based on what has intrigued members. The one who suggests the book generally leads the discussion of that book. In December we join together for a holiday luncheon that features an exchange of books. Our next meeting will be on March 27 at 2PM.  The book is My name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout. With the move the venues change and are generally at members’ homes. If you are interested and new to the group and will need directions to the meeting, contact Anne Leonard at  anne@alartworks.com or call 307-8045.
SUNDAY BOOK GROUP
Sunday, March 18, 10:00 am
at The Fountains.
On March 11 we will continue discussing our new book: Just Babies: The origins of good and evil by Paul Bloom.  In this book Bloom “argues that humans are… hardwired with a sense of morality. Drawing on groundbreaking research at Yale, Bloom demonstrates that, even before they can speak or walk, babies judge the goodness and badness of others’ actions; feel empathy and compassion; act to soothe those in distress; and have a rudimentary sense of justice.”  We will discuss the book probably through April 8.  For more information contact John Clark at alvinjclark@aol.com
