After this many years in worship and as a worship leader, I’ve seen just about everything.  Sung prayers in a cathedral choir?  Check.  Pentecostal healing service in a South Carolina swamp?  Check.  Taizé?  Check.  Cowboy Church?  Check.  Blue jeans and guitars?  Check.  Radio show a la Prairie Home Companion?  Check.  In a tree?  Check.

I know this sounds like a Dr. Seuss book…(Would you, could you in a boat?  Would you, could you with a goat?)…but it’s true.  I grew up in a generation that adapted worship in every conceivable way in an effort to be…get ready for it…relevant. 

But maybe we got it wrong.

Come be engaged in theological and academic conversation while experiencing rejuvenation for ministry.  Our theme is “The Paradox of Perfection:  Our Wesleyan Heritage.” We'll explore Christian Perfection through the teachings of Dr. Rex Matthews, Professor in the Practice of Historical Theology and Wesleyan Studies at Candler School of Theology.  Workshops, Panels, and Fellowship Time will enhance our time together.  Bishop Lewis and Rev. William Lamar (pastor of Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, D.C.) will lead us in worship.

District Orientation Session for 2018 Annual Conference
District Superintendent Alex Joyner has set Thursday, June 7, 2018, 6:30 - 7:30 pm for our orientation session to prepare for Annual Conference. We will be meeting in the Oyster Room in the Onley Town Center, Onley, VA 23418. All Clergy, Charge and District Lay Delegates as well as anyone interested will need to attend.

A Reminder about Kits for Conference

As your church begins to collect items for kits, please note that UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is only asking for Hygiene, School and Cleaning Kits. More information about kits and kit drop-offs at AC 2018 are available at the link.

Friday, March 23 from 5 to 7 pm, Onley UMC, 25642 E. Main St., Onley, VA 23418 will have a Clam and Ham dinner. Both dine in and eat out are available. The menu consists of clam fritters and ham, potato salad, lime/pineapple gelatin salad, deviled egg, roll, dessert and beverage.  Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children 10 years old and under. This is a popular event and reservations are strongly recommended.  Call 787-4155 or 787-2721

Saturday, March 24th, 10 am, @Travis Chapel UMC, 6412 Sunnyside Rd., Oyster, VA 23419 will host breakfast with the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny will have a little treat to give each child.  Also a picture of your child with the Easter Bunny will be taken and given to you before you leave.  We will do a craft with your little one and give you a craft kit  that can be done at home with the family.

Sunday, March 25, 10:30 am, Palm/Passion Sunday at Franktown UMC, 7551 Bayside Road, Franktown, VA  23354. Our Choir will be presenting a Palm/Passion Sunday Cantata entitled Come Walk With Me: Through the Passion and Resurrection of Christ by Pepper Choplin during the worship hour. Be sure to come and hear the beautiful voices in our choir as they lead us through the path that Christ took during His last days in human form. Be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to come and take this dramatic walk with the choir. It is sure to be a truly soul-stirring experience for all.

Thursday, March 29, 7 pm, Holy Thursday Service at Franktown UMC.  Join us for our Holy Thursday Foot Washing Service and learn how Serving Jesus is Serving Others. The service will be based on the scriptures John 13:1-17, 31b-35 where Jesus washed the feet of his Disciples and then gave the new commandment that we are to love one another just as He loves us; thereby showing that we too are His Disciples.

Sunday, April 1, 10:30 am, Eastern Sunday Service at Franktown UMC. Our Easter Sunday service will be a traditional service of Word and the Table as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Please come journey with Jesus through Holy Week as we remember together the sacrifices Jesus made so that we might live.
