MTS State Capitols March '18

First, I want to thank each of you for your prayers.  The Lord has been answering! Since our last update during the Thanksgiving season, a lot has happened.  First, I (Thomas) got sick.  I probably came down with the flu shortly after Thanksgiving and I would simply not heal.  I didn’t go to the doctors until January, and by then it had developed into pneumonia and bronchitis.  I was put on antibiotics, which cleared the pneumonia but because I have asthma, the bronchitis would not go away.  I was coughing and very weak all January and most of February.  I know a number of friends who have likewise come under the effects of this year’s flu.  Maybe you did, too.  I am very thankful to the Lord it is over and that I can live without coughing every few minutes.

Now, ministry news:  First we have moved!  We are now living in Fayetteville, Georgia.   We bought a smaller house mid-January and spent the month of February making some minor improvements to it. At the same time we were downsizing at the rental in Virginia.  We actually drove to Georgia on February 28th and arrived to the welcome of two of our sons, their wives, and five of our grandchildren.  They are all excited we have moved so close to them.  Living in Georgia will cut the cost to the ministry a great deal both financially and timewise.  In Virginia, when we traveled, we ended up switching planes in Atlanta to get to anywhere we needed. Now we’re only 20 minutes from the Atlanta airport!  This will give us a lot more opportunities to do day-trip meetings with pastors and candidates for MTS with less overnight lodging costs and lower overall travel expense.

Since the last published newsletter, we have visited two presbyteries:  New York City Metro and Pittsburg.  During our Pittsburg visit one of the ministers stated he felt called to MTS in Harrisburg (Pennsylvania’s capital).  We have met with him and number of times and once with he and his wife.  He may be the perfect person to start MTS in Harrisburg!  Continue praying. We will keep you posted.

A number of candidates have been interested in MTS for Texas.  None have worked out thus far.  We do have another minister that we’ll be traveling to interview for the position this month (March).  Please pray this goes well, and if he is the right man to start MTS in Texas, that the Lord makes this clear.

MTS has had a part time ministry in Oklahoma City for over 20 years.  This is where MTS started and our director, Chuck Garriott, has kept the ministry active, even after he moved to Washington DC to start MTS nationally.  Those who have been doing the part time ministry recognize there needs to be someone who can give more time to the effort than they can.  God has answered their prayers!  We will be traveling to Oklahoma City to interview our new candidate.  Keep this in your prayers as well.

I have been in email contact with someone who is interested in doing MTS ministry in either Mississippi or Tennessee.  I am waiting for a date we can set up for us to meet.

Lastly, last fall we had a minister interested in doing MTS in Alabama.  We spent some time both visiting with each other, on the phone, and via email.  By January it became clear to both of us that MTS was not the right ministry for him to join.  However, this effort brought us into contact with a few of the churches in Montgomery and they are interested in MTS.  So, pray for the Lord to raise up a minister to do MTS in Alabama.
