Welcome to the March edition of the Health Translations newsletter.

In this edition, we showcase translated resources about women’s health, workplace rights, emergencies, family violence, age care and disability.

Health Translations is a great resource. We need your help to tell more people about it – so please share with your friends, family and colleagues.

NDIS training for Interpreters in Arabic, Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin

The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health (CEH) is running a series of workshops for interpreters to help them understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The CEH workshops for interpreters about understanding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse context are now full – places were filled in three hours and all workshops now have waiting lists.

These free, two-hour workshops target specific language groups: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Cantonese. Further workshops will be organised to meet the demand, including for smaller language groups, later in the year.

Thanks to funding from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, CEH is supporting disability providers transitioning to the NDIS to work effectively with CALD clients. This includes collecting translated resources about the NDIS available on Health Translations, as well as producing resources to meet identified gaps. CEH also offers free professional development sessions to disability service providers to build their capacity to manage a diverse workforce and work with CALD clients.

For information about the NDIS and CALD communities project, contact Sophie Dutertre at CEH or call 03 9418 9911.
