As Spring approaches, I am reminded of the many ways that Malama Pono Health Services provides a new beginning for members of the Kauai community who have nowhere else to turn. By breaking down barriers to care, MPHS provides health services, education and support services to the underserved, uninsured and those who struggle with navigating the healthcare system.
Our focus in 2018 is on continued growth of our currently offered services including our Women's Wellness Clinic, transgender services, STD, HIV, hepatitis B&C testing, smoking cessation, HIV/AIDS case management, sexual health education, parenting classes and more. With expansion through our mobile health unit and in office services, we will reach even more of the Kauai population who need us the most. Each of these programs allows us to impact the Kauai community in ways that we have never been able to do before and have opened the door for more ways to fulfill our mission in the community. Program Spotlight:
Smoking Cessation
As the sole Hawaii Community Foundation Smoking Cessation grantee on Kauai, Malama Pono Health Services has established a successful, free program to help people that would like to quit smoking and/or the use of tobacco. Our Tobacco Treatment Specialists are all trained and certified yearly in tobacco cessation counseling. Our program offers:
- FREE carbon monoxide reading
- FREE instruction in how to properly use Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT's)
- FREE patches and gum
- FREE individual and group counseling sessions
- FREE workplace group sessions- we come to you!

Hope and Care for Kauai's Women
As our Women's Wellness Clinic continues to grow, the need for program funds to help cover those that are uninsured/underinsured grows along with it. Our program has helped find many abnormal Pap smear results, breast lumps that we have been able to refer for further screening, and other gynecological issues that affect women every single day. While we are able to acquire limited funds through grants that we receive, the demand for women's wellness services far exceeds these funds. Your donation will help us continue these free services for the women of Kauai that otherwise would not seek care.
