Free sneak peek of Malachi's novel
Camp NaNoWriMo approaches!
And how to find time for creativity.
Hello there,
These have been busy times for the Generation Rising authors between spring midterms, new job and school situations, getting ready to be exhibitors at AFHE Convention again, and of course- editing and rewriting!

But we wanted to stop for a moment to say "hey" to our lovely subscribers and give you a little hope. Yes, we are still finding time to dream, write, enjoy sunsets, and create- even in the middle of life's craziness!

To prove it to you... here, read the prologue of Malachi's novel-in-the-works from NaNo17! It is currently in the rewriting/gutting/ripping apart stage (a.k.a. editing) that all writers loath, but he is pushing through; and we hope to see "All Things" on the book table someday. :) Click the image to read the excerpt.
Hooray for the first 2018 session of Camp NaNoWriMo coming up in April! Camp NaNo is different than November's 'Big 50k' in that you can customize your word goal. So far three of our authors hope to participate, and we can't wait to see what cool writing/editing results emerge from this much more doable endeavor!
Remember how we mentioned making time for creativity in our busy schedules? Here a few practical ways our authors do this with writing, reading, thoughts, etc:
  • Julia says, "When it comes to writing I'm a big crammer so it is hard for me to do a little at a time — but that's how things actually get done. I learned last month that setting a small goal, like "sit down and write for a short time every day", and getting a friend to text me as writing accountability helps a ton!"
  • Elijah says, "When I'm really busy and still want to get writing to fit into my day, I just have to be more disciplined."
  • Maggie says, "Give yourself some slack; if you do it then great! Do it! And if you don't because you are too busy, remember that's okay too."
  • Malachi, who works construction part-time, listens to audiobooks for his daily dose of creative. For writing, he encourages setting aside time specifically, turning on music, and then simply doing your best. "And some days will be better than others, that's for sure!"
  • Kate likes to read fiction for at least half an hour in the evening to keep her brain fresh and imaginative!
  • Tanner says, "Always have something with you for writing notes. Note apps on phones are some of the best tools! If you only have a pen but no paper, use your arm!!! Mom might not be happy, but your characters may just escape alive because of your quick thinking."
