Urgent Action: I Welcome campaign.

Email your MP now, to urge them to attend Parliament this Friday, 16th March, and to vote in favour of a change in the law which will allow refugee children to be joined by their immediate family members. More information available here.

March Main Meeting
Wednesday 14th March, from 7.15pm

Join us for our monthly meeting where we discuss the importance of human rights, learn about latest cases from around the world and come together to celebrate and defend human rights in our local community.This week we will be focusing on Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: ‘Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for… health and well-being’.

Human Rights in Turkey
Thursday 22nd March, 6pm to 8pm
Sheffield University, The Arts Tower, Western Bank, S10 2NT

There will be a panel discussion about the human rights situation and latest updates from Turkey featuring three speakers including, Richard Williams – Amnesty International’s Turkey Coordiantor in the UK. This is a joint event between SYMAAG (South Yorkshire Migration Asylum Action Group), Sheffield Amnesty International and the Politics Society, Sheffield University.

March Letter Writing
Wednesday 28th March, 7pm to 9pm
University Arms, 197 Brook Hill, Sheffield, S3 7HG

An opportunity to write letters to stand up for human rights across the world in a relaxed setting. No previous letter writing experience required! Templates, stamps and paper provided. We'll be in one of the rooms upstairs trying to look obvious!

Sheffield Hallam University Amnesty International Society Launch
Wednesday 14th March, 5.30pm to 7pm

Heart of the Campus, Lecture Theatre 0.06, Sheffield Hallam University, Collegiate Crescent, S10 2BP

Join students from Sheffield Hallam University as they launch their own Amnesty International group. There will be guest speakers talking about why human rights are still relevant in the world we live in today, including UN humanitarian aid worker and author Professor Conor Foley.This is a free event open to everyone. Refreshments will be provided but please book your ticket here.

AGM and National Conference
Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th April

If you are a member of Amnesty International UK, you are invited to the AGM and conference. We can subsidise the costs for one person to attend as Sheffield Group’s representative. If you are interested, please email the committee as soon as possible. For more information on the AGM, click here.

Write your Will
Make a Will Month is a free will-writing service taking place throughout March. Over 150 solicitors across the UK have pledged to give up their time for free to help you write or update your will. Find out more here


Get Involved with Sheffield AI
 
Become a member of Sheffield’s AI group.
Membership allows you to vote on financial decisions (and technically on AGM business), but mainly goes towards paying for room hire, postage, stall hire etc. We are very grateful for all individuals who support the group in this way. For more information, click here.
