Stakeholder events

The first round of stakeholder events in ClimeFish has started. Each of the simulation and implementation cases in ClimeFish hold meetings with relevant stakeholders to discuss our results, methodological approach and expected outcomes. This is where co-creation of the ClimeFish impact generators happens. Read more about each of our cases here and please contact us if you want more information.

The Galician Stakeholder Event

Forecasts for the Galician mussel case study were presented, focusing on the RCP8.5 scenario by 2050. The following future climate impacts were highlighted: i) sea surface water temperature will increase by 0.5ºC; ii) upwelling favourable period will be shorter but more intense; iii) river flows will decrease by late spring (may); and iii) winter extreme wind events will not increase significantly compared to the current situation. The Lake Garda Stakeholder Event

Exponents of the professional and recreational fishery, local administrations, environmental protection agencies, as well as the scientific community attended the meeting, resulting in a total of 22 participants. The main objectives of the meeting was to a)contribute in raising awareness of potential impacts of climate change in stakeholders that are not used to relate their activities to this type of environmental problems and b) to collect their opinions regarding all the aspects of the ClimeFish project. The North East Atlantic Stakeholder Event

The  North East Atlantic stakeholder meeting on pelagic fisheries was held at the ICES headquarters in Copenhagen. This case study is one of two marine fisheries simulation case studies in ClimeFish, meaning that the work to be conducted includes biological forecasting of the future effect of climate change. The North East Atlantic stakeholder event focused on the  identification of risks and opportunities and developing adaptive measures for coping With climate change. The meeting was attended by 21 participants, a combination of ClimeFish scientists and stakeholders, including governmental representatives, industry representatives from both fisheries and fishmeal industry, NGOs and researchers. EDF Oceans Europe

Climate-related impacts are creating significant shifts in the range, distribution and productivity of key commercial fish species in the North-East Atlantic region. The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) recognise that species’ shifts are occurring not just in Europe, but globally. Based on outcomes of the workshop with several ClimeFish participants, EDF identified a number of factors converging in the North-East Atlantic region, creating new and complex challenges for fishery managers, scientists and industry. Three key takeaways include:
1. Fish stocks are shifting rapidly affecting the range, distribution, abundance and productivity of key commercial species
2.
Re-invigorated regional fisheries institutions can help to lead change
3.
We can achieve adaptive, flexible fisheries management and governance using Tools and approachesalready to hand
