Ms Madden's Book recommendation
What’s Worrying You?  By Molly Potter, in the same range as How Am I Feeling Today?  Both these non-fiction texts are really accessible and helpful to pupils from Reception to Year 6.  They have a easy to use contents page where readers choose which ‘worry’ or ‘feeling’ to explore.  Then, practical advice is given, as well as explanations of feelings – helping to develop emotional literacy.    What’s Worrying You covers very helpful issues, such as parents’ arguing, or what to do if you have nobody to play with in the playground.    We have several copies of these in school, but I wholly recommend them as a book for home, to dip in and out of, useful for children, parents and carers alike.

Stephen Hawking: Visionary physicist dies aged 76

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

He particularly paid great credit to his Maths teacher, Mr Tahta, who was great-uncle to one of our Year 6 pupils Lara.
He talks about him here on this video. #teachersmatter
Earth Hour 2018 Cake sale - Friday 23rd March 2.15pm
We will be fundraising for the World Wildlife Foundation (www.wwf.org.uk/earthhour) with a bake sale next Friday 23rd March.

What is Earth Hour?
WWF’s Earth Hour is the biggest movement to protect our planet.

When does it happen?
Saturday 24 March – lights out at 8:30pm for 60 minutes.

Hundreds of millions of people around the planet take part in WWF’s Earth Hour every year.
Last year around 9 million took part in the UK alone.

How does it work?

People do a wide range of things around the hour to show they care about our planet’s future. Millions choose to mark Earth Hour by going ‘lights out’ for 60 minutes at 8.30pm – a symbolic show of solidarity for the planet.

You can see more ideas of what to do in the dark
here.

The world’s biggest landmarks – like Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, and Edinburgh Castle – switch off lights as a visual display of their commitment too.

Your support for Earth Hour, and for WWF’s work in general, has helped us find solutions for the environmental challenges we face the world over. This includes influencing national climate policies, planting new forests in Uganda, and banning plastic in the Galapagos.

This year, we want to get as many people in the UK to make a promise for the planet as we can.

#EarthHourUK

What's your promise going to be for the planet?
