Theme of the month: Water
The Netherlands owes its strong economic position in Europe to water. We turned fishing, shipbuilding and overseas trade into successful business models, and we have a great deal of heritage to remind us of that. That’s why Water is the national theme of the European Year of Cultural Heritage in March. More news: the Maastricht Treaty will be awarded the European Heritage Label on 26 March.

Visitors’ tip: Opera Forward Festival
On 17 March, Pankaj Mishra (an essayist publishing in e.g. The Guardian and the New York Times) will speak about the state of the global world of art. Despite our increased knowledge of the variety of art in Asia and Africa, the West and its art criteria still determine world-wide standards. How can we follow in the footsteps of political decolonisation, to work towards the artistic and intellectual decolonisation of art?
