Resonate: Testing Services with a Foundation in Engineering Excellence
Welcome to the Resonate Testing March 2018 E-Newsletter.

Foreword

Our schools competition, Shake Rattle and Roll returned last week, with another fantastic test day on Friday. After a great launch event in 2017 we managed to ramp it up with the support of the team at Sirius Science, and the endorsement of none another than ESA Astronaut Tim Peake! Oh yes, not sure how but we did it but Tim recorded a series of messages for our competing teams, which you can see on our website news page – www.resonatetesting.com

This years test challenge was to build a rocket launch seat which would withstand the vibration and shock testing generated by our Electro Dynamic Shaker table. Once again all the schools approached the task in differing and innovative ways, interpreting the specification and building a range of test articles. And everything tested survived impressively well, forcing our Test House Manager Mary Kelly to really ramp up the power! We were truly impressed with what each of the schools came up with and its encouraging to see the next generation so engaged in Engineering and STEM tasks.

And the winner is… (See below)

Aside from the fun and educational activities, business is good with the recent commissioning of additional capabilities including hydraulic rigs to handle Skydrol and Jet A1. And we’ve added additional meeting room space to improve our customers experience while on site – already affectionately dubbed the Tesla suite, I think because its next to the EV charging point!

Over the coming weeks we’re all off on our travels with presentations and exhibitions, you can find details below of where we’ll be, please get in touch if you would like to meet with us.

Regards

Michael

Shake, Rattle & Roll – Promoting STEM and having fun!

Many of you will remember our schools competition from last year based on setting an engineering challenge to GCSE level STEM students and getting them to build a structure which we then vibrate until it fails. This years event took place on the 9th March with Wellington College Belfast coming out the winners.

A great day was had with the competing teams, with additional activities provided by Sirius Science along side some fire testing demonstrations from the Resonate Team. There are additional photo’s and videos on our website of this years event. Click Here

We look forward to hearing about the winners prize trip to the UK Space Campus at Harwell. The event has already become a favourite  with the Resonate team and we look forward to running it again in 2019.

Exhibitions & Conferences
  • ADS Aircraft Interiors Group Meeting in Farnborough
  • UKTI Propulsion Mission to P&W / UTC in Hartford, USA
  • Boeing / ADSS conference – Seattle, USA

Engineering Joke of the Month - An Occasional Feature

A mathematician, a physicist, and an engineer are all given identical rubber balls and told to find the volume. They are given anything they want to measure it, and have all the time they need.

The mathematician pulls out a measuring tape and records the circumference. He then divides by two times pi to get the radius, cubes that, multiplies by pi again, and then multiplies by four-thirds and thereby calculates the volume.

The physicist gets a bucket of water, places 1.00000 gallons of water in the bucket, drops in the ball, and measures the displacement to six significant figures.

And the engineer? He writes down the serial number of the ball, and looks it up!

If you have good engineering based joke please share it with us we’ll share it with our contacts list. We might even send you a pen, or a phone charger as thank you (no guarantees though).
