Social-Emotional Learning Night next Thursday!
PAC Newsletter, March 2018
Do you have difficulty with your child refusing to come to school?  Do you want to learn what might be "red flags" that show your child might benefit from professional help?  Do you want to learn about the new Second Step curriculum or what support exists in the middle school at Peterson?  Do you want to find out about resources in our community?

Please plan to join us for our first-ever Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Night next Thursday, March 22nd from 5:15-7:00 p.m.  We will have information about what kids are learning and experiencing at Peterson as well as a number of organizations sharing their expertise.

A free dinner and door prizes will begin at 5:15 - please enter through the Cafeteria.  Mr. Coleman and Ms. Martino will provide a brief overview of the counseling program at Peterson, and then breakout sessions will begin at 5:55.  Both Arabic and Spanish interpreters will be available at the event.

Choose from
sessions for parents including: Child & Adolescent Mental Health & When to Seek Professional Help (with The Kedzie Center presented in English & Spanish); Art Therapy (with Mosaic Therapy); Positive Discipline (with SEL Chicago); Services for Refugee Families (with Asian Human Services); An Overview of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) with Primary Grades; and An Overview of SEL for Middle Schoolers & the Mentor Program at Peterson.

We will also have a resource fair to get more information about community resources including Asian Human Services, Tuesday's Child, Albany Park Community Center, and more!
Some of the prizes you can win at SEL Night!

PARCC Testing

PARCC testing will begin on Tuesday, March 13th for 3rd-5th grade students and Monday, March 19th for 6th-8th grade students. Click here for more information about the PARCC test. This is the final year the test will be administered in Illinois.
Inside Out & A Costume Contest

Kids who are five and older are welcome to watch Inside Out in the Auditorium beginning at 5:30 during SEL Night.

Do your kids want to dress up as Joy or Anger or Disgust or another one of the characters from Inside Out?  The top three Inside Out costume contest winners will win a prize - a copy of the film, a book, or Joy to bring home!

Free SEL Night Childcare

While the older kids watch Inside Out, we will also have childcare available for children between ages 1-5.  Please RSVP for one of the limited spots by contacting the PAC by clicking here.

The PAC was created to help support the role of parents and the school as equal partners in children’s education. The primary purpose of the PAC is to empower parents to inspire and assist their children in achieving their educational goals.
