Asyl
An exhibition by Marie Jagd
Opening Friday the 23rd of March @16-20.
With an original window from the castle 'Næsseslottet' as a starting point, Marie Jagd investigates the window and its view both as a metaphor and a specific building component.
The word Asyl [asylum] derives from Greek and means sanctuary. In 1984 Næsseslottet was the first Danish asylum under the Red Cross. As a consequence of the Islamic revolution in 1979 and the war between Iran and Iraq 48 Iranian refugees came to Denmark. That was a big number at the time and after a period of abandonment and decay the castle was adapted to an asylum in one night.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday 10 - 17 untill the 27th of April 2018.

Marie Jagd (f. 1986) lives and works in Copenhagen. She is a graduate from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 2014. Marie Jagd's work spans between art, architecture and literature. She investigates the relation between body, mind and architectural/ sculptural space.

En udstilling af Marie Jagd
Fernisering fredag 23. marts kl. 16-20.
Med udgangspunkt i et oprindeligt vindue fra Næsseslottet, undersøger Marie Jagd vinduet og
dets udsigt både som metafor og konkret bygningselement.
Ordet Asyl kommer fra græsk og betyder fristed. Næsseslottet var i 1984 det første danske
asyl under Røde Kors. Som følge af den islamiske revolution i 1979, og krigen mellem Iran og
Irak, kom 48 iranske flygtninge til Danmark. Det var mange dengang, og slottet blev i løbet
af en nat indrettet til asyl, efter at have stået tomt og forfaldent i årevis.
Udstillingen er åben mandag – fredag 10-17 indtil 27. april 2018.
Udstillingen er lavet på Statens Værksteder for Kunst.

Marie Jagd (f. 1986) bor og arbejder i København. Hun er uddannet fra Det Kongelige Danske
Kunstakademis Arkitektskole i 2014.
Marie Jagds praksis ligger i et felt mellem kunst, arkitektur og litteratur. Hun undersøger
forhold mellem krop, psyke og det arkitektoniske/skulpturelle rum.
