A Message From The President

NiRA Annual General Meeting - 2018

Activities have kicked off, in preparation for the Annual General Assembly of our dear organization - NIRA. It will afford us the opportunity to give account of our stewardship, interact at close proximity with members and discuss issues concerning NiRA. Statutorily, the AGM must hold on or before the end of the fourth month of every year. This year, it will hold on the 27th April 2018.
 
Later in the evening of the same day, I will have the privilege of hosting members, stakeholders and members of the public at its 3rd .ng Awards night. The .ng Awards celebrates the achievements and innovations on the Internet as it relates to the .ng brand.

The .ng awards showcases Nigerian businesses, the private and public sectors at all levels, and individuals who have contributed to promoting and projecting Nigerian local content on the Internet.   The general public does the nominations of qualified organisations and in the selection of the winners in each category by voting for the nominees of their choice.

The impact of GDPR outside the EU!
The Data Protection Directive 95/46/ec will be replaced with the new General Data Protection Regulation on the 25th of May 2018 in every country in the European Union. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) contains protections for EU data subjects, contains sanctions for non-compliant data controllers and processors. The GDPR represents the most significant change to data protection law in more than two decades. However, the reach of the GDPR will not be limited to Europe.

CHOOSING BETWEEN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP AND CORELDRAW
Graphics is an important part of web design. It is important you know and understand the graphic software you want to use for your website. This is because 99% of websites today have images, photo galleries etc. A web designer who has little or no knowledge of graphics and how to embed them in designs would end up having a stale and boring website.
There is a number of graphic software available for use like CorelDraw, Paint, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. but our focus would be on CorelDraw and Photoshop. People often think that Photoshop and CorelDraw are the same thing or perform the same functions. We would highlight some differences between Adobe Photoshop and CorelDraw.

NEW NITDA BOARD MEMBERS INAUGURATED 
On Thursday 7th March 2018, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu inaugurated the new governing Board of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Abuja.
NITDA's new Governing Board is charged with the responsibility of formulating policies for the management of NITDA.
 
The seven-man governing board is led by Prof Adeolu Akande as Chairman and the others members are Honorable Kazeem Salako, Dr Lawal Bello Moriki, Hajia Binta Mohammed, Mr. Uche Onwude, Rt. Hon Abdullai Bello and Sen J.J. Akpanunudoedehe. The newly inaugurated board members have various levels of experiences from both the private and public sector.

NITDA STARTUP FRIDAY AT UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE

On the 9th of March 2018, National Information Technology Development Agency launched its “Startup Friday” programme at Emerald Event Center Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The “Startup Friday” is a smart gathering for ICT Entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, find support and bridge the seed funding gap in Nigeria. StartUp Friday is aimed at identifying exceptional young brilliant and talented Nigerians with ICT solutions for the Agency to support, promote and better their products & services

ICANN61 Kicks Off in San Juan, Puerto Rico!
The ICANN61 Community Forum is ongoing in San Juan, Puerto Rico with about 2,000 participants from 150 countries taking part in over 300 sessions. The Public Meeting will end on the 15th March 2018.
ICANN meetings are an important part of how the Internet global community interacts, give diverse group of stakeholders a chance to meet face-to-face and develop policy and advice in a more personal, collaborative environment. They're also a great opportunity to learn about the wider community and see what fellow stakeholders are working hard on.
Hosting ICANN61 in Puerto Rico six months after Hurricane Maria is a testament to the commitment to the development of the Internet community.
ICANN 61 meeting has proven to be another week of intense discussion, important work, and productive sessions.
NIRA is represent at ICANN61, following up with global trends in the Domain Name industry and contributing in the ongoing discussions.
