Shalom from Orange Beach Alabama. Although we did not get rained on Wednesday, a very strong headwind (hitting our heads, from the front) graced us with its ugly presence. The strategy in these situations is to put stronger riders on the front or windward side of the peloton formation, then the fatigued or subsequent riders fall in on the leeward side, staying in as tight a formation as possible. But what happens when those strong riders get weary from fighting the wind? Who really wants to be the shelter, or the tip of the spear? Well I did not want to be on the wind side, and I grew tired, but desire and duty are separate things. Those with ability, have a responsibility.

Cycling with Project Hero teaches me lessons that I want to share with you. My book, The Church and The Community, contains a few of these golden nuggets, born from adverse situations such as the one I described above. You can become the shelter, the tip of the spear, and ultimately successful in life. It is not a matter of ability or training, rather it comes down to a decision. Will I commit to pedaling as hard as I can, for as long as I can, and only quit once my body has literally hit a wall? Not “about to hit the wall” or “I am growing tired”, because that happens to all of us. As more veterans re-commit to give it their all, in service to others, lives are changed (and saved).

Thank you for cycling with me across the Gulf Coast and yes I am sore, but my Day Three Video will prayerfully remind you why I am here.
