Saturday 5Rhythms
New Moon
New programme of classes

We're writing with a special message from Ruth inviting you to join with us in marking another new beginning in the unfolding adventure that is Saturday 5Rhythms. This kicks off with our next class on 17 March - which this month coincides with the New Moon. There's also info below about an increase in fees and upcoming dates.
Spring 5Rhythms with Ruth Hirst
Saturday 17 March 2018

Come and join us as we dance our way into Spring.
Everyone, and everything, is welcome.

6.30 for 6.45pm at St Luke's Church, Aylsham Road
Dear Dancing Tribe,

I hope this finds you well... and keeping warm.

As you will no doubt be aware, the collective that was coming to teach in Norwich over the last four years has come to an end. In the last 3 months the community has said goodbye to Angela Griffiths, Nikki Ashley and Jason Rowe, with gratitude for all their beautiful teachings.

I know Angela was teaching in Norwich over 20 years ago, bringing the 5Rhythms way before the Saturday classes became birthed, and I want to acknowledge what both Angela and Tim Broughton brought in the early days, without which maybe there would not be the dance there is today.

I was sad to say goodbye to my friends and colleagues. I decided to dance with it and see what emerged, and what became clear was I wanted to continue to offer my teachings to Norwich. In consulting with the crewing group about how to keep bringing 5Rhythms to the community, we've decided to move forward on the basis of having a paid producer while I take on the role of organiser. This will mean I'll be inviting other teachers in and taking more of a prominent teaching role myself. Liz will take on the role of producer for an initial period.

Norwich is an amazing dance community - with classes now happening weekly on a Tuesday evening with Mary Hedger, the Saturday 5Rhythms dance community once a month, and live music events being planned. I'm aware that Norwich has had a lot of change, and change can be unsettling. And yet from change amazing things can grow if we give it the loving and nourishing attention it needs.

So Saturday 5Rhythms Norwich classes will begin again in a different guise, on the evening of a new moon. Following the 17 March class, the dates will change thereafter to the 1st Saturday of the month, from 7 April - see full schedule below.

I hope you’ll join me, Liz, the crew and all the dancers in these new beginnings. Now more than ever, I believe we each need to show up in our truth, our power, and let our dance matter. As Gabrielle Roth, who created this practice, said: ‘If you don’t do your dance, who will?’

With love,
Ruth
Schedule of classes

7 April -
Teacher: Ruth Hirst   |   5 May - Teacher: Ruth Hirst
2 June - Teacher: tbc   |   7 July - Teacher: tbc
4 August - Teacher: tbc
Price increase

New fees from 17 March:
£14  |  £12 low income  |  £8 concessions

We've decided to increase the fee for classes for two reasons: to ensure financial sustainability going forward, and to take into account recent increases in the cost of hiring the church.

Our calculations are based on a class size of 28 - the average number of dancers over the last six months. We will see how it goes over the next few months, and review the fee if we find the average class size changes.

If you would like a free ticket in exchange for being part of the setup crew, please talk to Liz or one of the other crew members.
