My Favorite Verse

by Craig Carr, Washington Conference vice president for administration

For many years my favorite verses in scripture had been John 3:16, John 14:1-3, and Psalm 23. These familiar themes still thrill my heart: that God loves me and has saved me, that He’s coming back soon to take us home, and that His care for us is like a Shepherd.

Over the last several years there is a verse that has risen to the top of my favorites’ list. The most meaningful verse to me in the Bible has become Galatians 2:20.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

This verse speaks of full surrender to God, just as Christ was crucified for us. It redefines my journey of faith as a “Christ in me” experience by which the Holy Spirit shapes and molds me into His image. And it reminds me that God’s love for me is so vast and deep that He “gave Himself for me.” Yes, “God so loved the world…that whosoever believes….” Yes, “In My Father’s house are many mansions….” But most of all, “The Lord is MY Shepherd.”

I’m very thankful that Jesus was crucified and lives again, and that He “gave Himself for me,” and you too!

The Basics of Mission

Recently a Pacific Press Publishing Association representative attended our staff worship at the office and shared a very short video about mission. Please take a few moments and view this video and reflect on it.

There are no doubt many things that take up our schedules each day, but one thing that should occupy our minds on a regular basis is the mission that God has called us to do.

I hope you find this helpful as you go about this day and you may even want to share it with your leadership teams or the church at large to help us be reminded of why we exist as a church.

Let us unite around the basic mission of the church and let’s make a difference in our portion of the world this year. It will also make a difference in the lives of those God places in our path.
