TRANSITION TO SOIL HEALTH WORKSHOPS
We are thrilled to be bringing two Transition to Soil Health Workshops to the Parkes and Forbes Shires at the start of April.
The workshops will be held in the following locations:

Adavale Lane Hall on Thursday, 5 April
Bedgerabong Hall on Friday, 6 April


Dr Ashley Martin will be working with landholders to understand all aspects of soil health. We are also pleased to have Guy Webb from Agriwest and Tristan Steventon from Stevtech joining us.

TITAN MACQUARIE MUD RUN CENTRAL WEST LANDCARE TEAM
Our Central West Landcare TITAN Macquarie Mud Run Team has increased. we now have a total of 14 people representing our region in the run from right across the Central West. Keep a check on our facebook page on leading up to 24 March and on the day for pics. 

The aim of participating in this event is not to WIN anything, it is about being engaged, being active and working as a team.

Climate outlook overview

  • The autumn (March to May) rainfall outlook, issued 28 February 2018, shows large parts of central and southeastern Australia are likely to have a drier than average season.
  • March to May daytime temperatures are likely to be warmer than average for most of Australia, except eastern NSW and southeastern Queensland, which have roughly equal chances of a warmer or cooler than average season.
  • Overnight temperatures are likely to be warmer than average for the northeast, central and southern parts of Australia. The northwest and parts of the east have roughly equal chances of a warmer or cooler than average season.
  • A weak and short-lived La Niña continues to break down, with a return to neutral conditions expected by mid-autumn. In the past, the break down of weak La Niña events has seen drier conditions during autumn.

Drier autumn likely for much of central and southeast Australia

  • A drier than average March to May is likely for large parts of central Australia, including northern and eastern WA, the southern and central NT, SA and western parts of the eastern mainland States. Elsewhere, the chances of a wetter or drier autumn are roughly equal.
  • La Niña continues its decline, with a return to neutral conditions expected in autumn. In the past, the break down of weak La Niña events has seen drier conditions during autumn.
  • Historical outlook accuracy for autumn rainfall is moderate to high over eastern and northern Australia as well as parts of western WA, with mostly low accuracy elsewhere. See map for more detail.

GRANTS CLOSING THIS MONTH
  • NLP Environmental Small Grants, more information here.  The grants are targeting projects that address the following:
    • Conserve, protect and sustainably manage Australia’s biodiversity, ecosystems, environment and heritage through research, information management, supporting natural resource management, establishing and managing Commonwealth protected areas, and reducing and regulating the use of pollutants and hazardous substances.
      • Eligible activities relating directly to project include: Weed treatment, pest or disease management, fencing, erosion management, revegetation, education and awareness raising activities, access management, indigenous land sea country planning, recording of indigenous ecological knowledge. 
    • Grants of between $5,000 and $50,000
    • Applications Close: 19th March 2018
  • The NSW Environmental Trust -  Restoration and Rehabilitation Grants Program, more information here
    • A total of $4 million is available to the following organisations for projects that assist in the ongoing sustainable management and stewardship of significant environmental assets and services in NSW:
      • $2 million for projects by community organisations
      • $2 million for projects by government entities
    • Grants of between $5,000 and $100,000 are available.
    • Applications close 3pm Monday 26 March 2018.
  • FRRR - Small Grants for Rural Communities, more information here
    • Projects funded address the following;
      • Building Community Resilience
      • Developing Organisational Resilience and Capacity
      • enhancing Environmental Sustainability
      • Fostering Cultural Vibrancy
      • Lifelong Edcation and Training
      • Economic Strength
      • Improving Community Health and Social Wellbeing
    • Grants up to $5,000 for not-for-profits in small rural, regional and remote Australian communities. 
    • Applications close 28 March 2018

For those of you who are local and love ABBA, there is really not excuse if you are not at Trundle on 4 and 5 May. Accommodation is available in Parkes, Forbes, Tullamore, Condobolin, Bogan Gate and other surrounding towns.

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION TRUST
The Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 introduces a more streamlined and strategic approach to supporting conservation on private land. It will deliver a range of initiatives and incentives to support and encourage landholders who want to establish protected areas on their land to manage and improve biodiversity on their properties.
