Next Wednesday we will start our final assembly at 11.45amas this will be our opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to Mrs Harman before she retires. The Y3's assembly will follow and school will close after this final assembly. The car park will be busy, so collection will be between 12.20pm and 12.50pm that day, to allow a better flow through the car park.
In keeping with tradition, this year we look forward to our Easter egg hunt and egg drop early next week, weather permitting.
Thank you for all your support this term, particularly with sporting and musical events over the last few weeks. As this will be the last newsletter of the term, on behalf of all of my colleagues at school, I wish you a very happy, restful Easter holiday.
We look forward to the children returning on Monday 16th April.
Kind regards

TGPS Bingo Night 9th March
After the unfortunate delay due to the snow, the friends and other adults involved in the ‘TGPS Bingo Night’ made it their mission to ensure a successful and enjoyable evening. With the hard work of Mrs Jackson, Mrs Hancocks and Mrs Connery, the school hall was miraculously transformed to our very own state-of-the-art ‘Bingo Hall’. It was so good that it could rival Gala Bingo itself!
With the tables prepared, pens made available and plenty of fun for all the family: the Bingo Night was destined to be a terrific evening. All the parents, staff and children had a fantastic time competing at the event. The numbers were read out by Mr Mytton who kept the crowds entertained in a traditional Bingo style with a slightly cheesy touch. The night was a great success and over £100 was raised which is an excellent result, helped by the fantastic bingo and tombola prizes that had been donated.
Thank you to everyone for coming and I hope we will have another one in the not too distant future.
In Maths the children have continued to work hard on both subtraction and addition, with some mixed number calculations. They have all been focusing on their mental maths skills with our goal to get the children working out and knowing their number facts very quickly. It certainly seems to be working as all the children love our number bonds challenges on the computer. They keep trying to beat their own target. The ‘Hit the Button’ number bonds to10 timed challenge is their favourite! Some of the children have even been bringing in their own Maths challenges for the other children to complete and there have even been some for the teacher as well. What Maths stars!
This week some of Class 2 have been looking at different forms of poetry including "kennings", "shape poems" and much more. We have also been studying poetic terminology such as alliteration, stanza and rhymes. The children have enjoyed the poems so much that they wanted to perform them to one another. We had so much fun thinking of exciting actions and considering how to deliver a performance in an engaging way.

Queen Margaret’s Tournament 2018 - York
The U10s pulled out the stops in the under 11’s Queen Margaret tournament. It was a fantastic opportunity to play some rigorous competition, on what was a very rainy day.
The School transformed their full sized Sports Hall Netball court into three mini sections, whereby the girls played a 5 sided, cross court game, with adapted rules and no wings.
After a sleepy start in the first match against Belhaven, the girls woke up and began to intercept the opposition’s ball, resulting with a win against Hunter Hall in game two.
The girls were up against some tough Year 6 opposition, with some exceptional game play and many of the girls had a clear height advantage, being that school year older. Despite this, our Year fives were undeterred.
The Read School and Richmond House School proved to be stronger than us, with a 4/0 and 6/0 win respectively. However, this was certainly no push over.
The girls got to watch a dance performance after lunch and have a swim in the large indoor pool.
The School was extremely hospitable too, offering both the pupils, staff and parents lunch as well as afternoon tea.
A lovely day out was had by all.
The girls finished 10th out of a total of 16 Teams.
The following Schools/Teams attended:

U11 Laxton Netball Tournament
The Under 11’s met with some stiff competition at The annual Laxton Netball tournament.
The first match was against Stamford A’s. This was a competitive game as always, however, Stamford just got the upper hand with a 4/3 win to them.
The girls' second match was against Witham Hall’s finest. Despite being 2/0 down in the second half, we hit back in the second half, scoring two goals in close succession, with some gutsy attacking skills. It looked like it was going to be a draw, however, Witham managed to pop a goal in, with seconds to go, resulting in a 3/2 win to them.
The final game in our pool was against Laxton A’s. The girls pulled it out of the bag in this game, attacking and defending the ball throughout. This resulted in a 4/2 win to Grantham.
Our aggregate points meant that we were out of the running for the cup, however we qualified to play for the plate. The girls maintained their positive attitudes and grit, beating Laxton B with a strong win of 10 goals to 1.
The second match against Laxton B was much closer, however, on the final whistle we had a one goal advantage of 4/3. This resulted in us claiming the Plate Award. Well done girls!
To continue to improve for The Nationals in May, we must learn to mark our players much more tightly, in order to keep possession of the ball. Also, we need to work on getting free of the opponent to receive the ball. There were too many loopy overhead throws, which were frequently intercepted. So, we can learn from this and work on our pace, to be in front of the defending player to receive a pass. This is vital when playing at this higher level.
Lastly, USE all the space of the court and don’t just blindly follow the ball round the court. It’s very tempting to do this, however we need the shooters in their goal third or D predominantly and our wings, Centre and defensive players doing the hard job of getting it to the goal end. No single player can do everything, so we shall work on our individual and team roles in the game and focus on getting up to speed for May. Exciting times girls!
Keep focussed! A happy,
Mrs Klimes and Mrs Clegg
Inter-house Netball Tournament
Tuesday afternoon saw the eagerly anticipated Inter-house Netball. The U11s took to the court first, and after 3 closely fought matches the results were as follows.
U11
Brownlow 5 Newton 2
Hornsby 5 Newton 6
Hornsby 2 Brownlow 6
Next came the U9s to show off their skills on the court. Their results were as follows.
U9
Brownlow 5 Newton 0
Hornsby 2 Newton 1
Hornsby 3 Brownlow 2
Overall result was:
1st Brownlow
2nd Hornsby
3rd Newton
Now it's down to the footballers to play their part on Tuesday afternoon!
Under 9 B Netball v St Hugh’s
It was a windy March afternoon but that didn’t stop the excitement in anticipation of the match. All the girls played their part in an exciting and educational match with some super performances. The team soon settled down and thought wisely about how they were passing the ball. We swapped positions throughout the match to give the girls an opportunity to shine in different areas of the court. It turns out we have several sharp shooters .The match finished 12- 0 in our which was a great result.
Superb effort everyone involved.

Inter House Swimming Gala
The Junior Inter House Swimming Gala took place this week but only after a small scare from the leisure centre regarding the temperature of the water. Having thrown a few buckets of warm water into the pool we eventually got underway. The three teams battled hard throughout the afternoon and kept a close eye on each other letting no one forge ahead with too many wins. At the halfway mark Brownlow and Newton had begun to establish a small lead on Hornsby but continued to match each other for points. The relays would be vital. Hornsby won three of the final four relays to really put the pressure on Newton and Brownlow and when Newton won the fourth of these last vital races it was over.
Congratulations to all the swimmers some of whom had to swim more races than planned due to absences and illnesses.
U10 Football v Brooke Priory
The weather was kind to us - biting cold wind in our faces and warming sun on our backs, lovely. Brooke Priory were unkind ( in a very sporting way) and dominated the two games with little sympathy or forgiveness of errors and failings. George defended bravely on many occasions but found himself isolated from his team mates too often and finding no one to pass to other than hungry Brooke forwards. Eight minutes played, three goals down and no shots of our own on target - a difficult afternoon ahead. Georgie began to show her considerable pace and looked lively and eager to score. Finlay read the game well from the back but didn’t quite have the composure to clear his lines when needed. A change in opposition couldn’t come quickly enough.
Ding ding, round two. More of the same started the game but suddenly after a great save from James our confidence was up and triangles of passing were beginning to gel, especially on the left with Elijah, Leo and Edward. Two shots on goal from our team rattled into their goalkeeper in quick succession but alas dealt with by the keeper all the same. An unfortunate mix up in our penalty area led to the only goal of the half and despite a much improved effort in the game, that one goal was to be the difference.

Remember to practice as efficiently as possible. FOCUS on one thing at a time and achieve that thing at that practice session.
Guatemala is known for the many mountains and volcanoes that surround it. It doesn´t matter where you are, there is always a majestic volcano to admire. This makes people from around the world want to come and enjoy a hiking experience.
One of the most attractive non-active volcanoes in Guatemala is the Ipala Volcano, which is about three and a half hours away from the city. Our 7th-through-9th-grade students had the opportunity to take the challenge of climbing this volcano. It was exciting to see students and teachers encouraging each other.
Experiencing such a challenge and the beauty of nature was very gratifying and enriching for both students and teachers. On the way back, students started thinking about the next fieldtrip. I´m sure we´ll have a blast too.
“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so that the world can see you". David McCullough Jr.

Science Corner - We have discovered the human body
9A and 9B visited the Body exhibition last Friday. Students have been studying about the body systems for a few weeks, thus it was very educational to have a look at the systems in real life. Displayed bodies explained the role and function of the systems and helped students to visualize the mechanism which keeps our body alive. Kids had a chance to learn how to spot breast cancer and they could try out reanimation as well.
