We're broadening our horizons...

...to include advocating for mindfulness-based social and emotional learning in schools, even as we stay true to our mission of creating and sharing the best possible curricula and resources with passion and integrity. Times have been exciting around here recently: We were honored to coordinate JusTme's visit last week; WUSA9 took notice and featured one of those.  A thoughtful, passionate group of educators gathered with us to talk about supporting the expansion of mindfulness and SEL in DC area schools!  The response to Linda's recent article in the WaPo has been so positive, and over 100 early childhood educators attended Jillian's recent workshop about mindfulness for our youngest students. More info below.  We're so glad to be on this journey with you! #ArmedwithLove

Peace of Mind Hosts "Mindful Conversation with Friends"

At our recent dinner event, Mindful Conversation with Friends, we announced our intention to file for 501c(3) status. We decided this is the best way to continue and expand our efforts to bring mindfulness-based SEL into schools. And as a part of our newly expanded mission, we are forming a coalition of individuals and organizations who are also doing this necessary work. If you'd like to be a part of our coalition, please let us know by completing this brief 3 question survey

JusTme Rocks DC

Back for his 2nd annual visit to the DC area, JusTme rocked it out with six different schools this year. That's over 2000 children who got to experience the amazing energy and positivity his performances exude. Jus spent a week touring at Lafayette, Mann, Ross, West Education Campus (his only middle school performance!) Highland View in Silver Spring and Cherry Run ES in Burke, Virginia. In between assemblies he spent time meeting with individual students, classes, and teachers to spread his message of mindfulness, self-control, engagement, and love. Our local News Channel 9 captured a bit of the fun and featured the event on the evening news, which you can see here

"My Students Call Me the Peace Teacher..."

If you didn't catch Linda's article that was recently published in the Washington Post, you can read it here. Then ask your local schools when they will get their own Peace Teacher! Linda wrote: "Children in the District and across the country are living in an increasingly scary, uncertain world....Yes, we must make sure our schools are physically safe. But we also need to be sure our kids have the skills to deal with these difficult emotional times." Check out Linda's article for some suggestions about how to help.

Mindfulness for Early Childhood

Peace of Mind recently facilitated a workshop titled Mindful Learners: Bringing Mindfulness + SEL into Early Childhood Classrooms for over 100 educators at the Fight For Children conference: Paradigms for Social and Emotional Learning. The participants were enthusiastic and excited about bringing this important work to our youngest learners, and we look forward to more partnerships as a result!
