TEXT:
Translated by John Mason Neale (1818-1866)

1. Eternal Monarch, King most high,
Whose blood hath brought redemption nigh,
By whom the death of Death was wrought
And conquering grace’s battle fought.

2. Ascending by the starry road,
This day Thou didst go home to God,
By Heav’n to pow’r unending called,
And by no human hand installed.

3. Be Thou our joy, O mighty Lord,
As Thou wilt be our great reward;
Earth’s joys to Thee are nothing worth,
Thou joy and crown of heav’n and earth.

4. To Thee we therefore humbly pray
That Thou wouldst purge our sins away,
And draw our hearts by cords of grace
To Thy celestial dwelling place.

5. O risen Christ, ascended Lord,
All praise to thee let earth accord,
Who art, while endless ages run,
With Father and with Spirit One.
Amen.
