The Outdoors
Spring ephemerals are just around the corner! The term ephemeral, meaning "fleeting" or "short-lived," refers to spring perennials that grow, bloom, and set seed before the trees fully leaf out. As the ground warms and the days lengthen, the spring ephemerals will begin to emerge in April and will stick around for only a few weeks. Hit the trails at Hartman to witness the fleeting beauty of Dutchman's breeches (above), trout lilies, trillium, Virginia bluebells, and more, such as the flowers below (clockwise from upper left): Hepatica, Wild Ginger, Dutchman's Breeches, Shooting Star.
