WHAT MAKES AN ARTIST?

I am frequently asked if an artist is born with talent, which would imply that some "have it" and some don't. I think in order for one to be a professional artist of note, there appea r to be four essentials. This is not an exhaustive list, but I think it does cover most of what is required:
 
Inspiration. 
This is the seed of creativity.  It provides the required energy to work through the many failures that come along with creative endeavors. But this is not enough. It is like the fuel for a car, but fuel alone won't get you anywhere.
 
Creativity. 
This is the natural talent that folks tend to credit any artistic success, as though the artist is just plain lucky; it is as if the artist was just lucky to be standing in the right line for heaven's blessings. A substantial amount of creativity is needed; we artists have to have a natural bend or leaning towards our craft; however, inspiration and creativity are not going to get one far without the next two components.
 
Knowledge.
All artists need to know the discipline of their craft.  This discipline is much more than copying a photo or the subject itself. A painting should never just be a documentation of facts. One needs to understand and develop a sense of design-  this is the ultimate visual expression.  Add inspiration, creativity, and knowledge of design to the following, and an artist may well be on his or her way.
 
Time. 
It takes time, and lots of it, to develop hand-eye coordination.  It can also take years to develop an effective sense of design; this is where self intuitive expression is matured.  There are no short cuts.

Oysterville Giants and Daffodils is a wonderful contrast in size and color. Usually the Oysterville Church catches my eye, however, this time the blooming daffodils by the ancient cypress trees offered a different perspective with the church framed in the background. This charming scene was a pleasure to paint. Just one of the many unique treasures on the Peninsula.. - Eric

Shipping the artwork back to us is at your expense and must be returned in its original condition. If there is damage to the artwork the refund or credit becomes null and void. Shipping and Handling charges are not refundable and are in addition to the painting price.
