ACADEMIC

Parent-Teacher-Student-Interviews (PTSI)
An opportunity to discuss the recent interim and diagnostic reports, and your daughter/s’ learning and pastoral progress, will be available on Wednesday 28 March, 3.30pm - 5pm for Day Girls and Thursday 29 March, 3pm - 4.30pm for Boarders in the form of 5-minute interviews. These will be held in the School Hall.

For students new to the School, we encourage you to also make an appointment with your daughter/s’ Homeroom Mentor (as your first port of call for learning and pastoral conversations at Woodford House).

This is the first round of PTSI for 2018 which are designed for you to simply check-in with your daughter/s’ teachers. The interviews in Term 2 will allow for more in-depth discussion around assessment and learning progress.

Scholarship Academy
The Woodford House Scholarship Academy experienced its best success yet with 10 scholarships attained in 2017. All girls did extremely well. Nationally, only 3% of students studying each subject at Level 3 are awarded Scholarship. Last year’s Head Prefect and Dux, Susannah Hansen, had a stellar year, attaining three scholarships with one at Outstanding (English, History and Accounting).

We were also fortunate to have had three Year 12 students receive scholarships: Georgia Trent (Physical Education), Emily Park (Music) and Maddie Fenn (English and History.) These girls are invaluable resources for the 2018 Scholarship Academy, which is being led by Academic Prefect Emily Crosse and Deputy Principal Mrs Stephanie Russell.

The rationale of the Academy is to strengthen our scholarship results by working to support our Scholarship candidates. Woodford House is enjoying the critical thinking and academic literacy expertise of Mrs Libby Hooper who is working alongside students and the staff leading Scholarship in their subjects.

Successful scholarship candidates are able, engaged and interested. We are looking forward to working with the group in 2018 and offering an interesting academic challenge. Students who are prepared and ready will be entered for NCEA Scholarship at the end of the year.

SPIRITUAL

Holy Week and Easter in Chapel

Week 9 is Holy Week, the most important time in the Christian calendar. Christians throughout the world will be following Christ’s final journey into Jerusalem and to the cross. We will be marking Holy Week in the following ways:
  • Monday in Chapel (10:55-11:20am) we will mark Palm Sunday- Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. Girls will each receive a flax cross (made by some of our students in Religious Education). These can be kept somewhere prominent all year until Ash Wednesday next year when they are returned to be burned for the ashes in the service.
  • Thursday in Chapel we will be marking Maundy Thursday and Good Friday by recalling Jesus’ last supper on the Thursday and his crucifixion on Good Friday. We will set up the large wooden cross and place a purple cloth upon it. The final Lenten light will be extinguished as a symbol of Christ’s death.
  • Our Easter Service will be held on Sunday 8 April at 7pm in Chapel. This will be a joyous occasion of singing and celebration, when we will dress the wooden cross with flowers to symbolize the resurrection and new life. All family and friends are invited to join us in this special service.
