EUROPA NOSTRA’S 7 MOST ENDANGERED HERITAGE SITES 2018 ANNOUNCED
The past March 15th, 2018, Europa Nostra announced in The Hague the seven most threatened heritage sites in Europe for 2018. The list presents:
  1. The Post-Byzantine Churches in Voskopoja and Vithkuqi in Albania,
  2. The Historic Centre of Vienna in Austria,
  3. The Buzludzha Monument in Bulgaria,
  4. The David Gareji Monasteries and Hermitage in Georgia,
  5. The Constanta Casino in Romania,
  6. The Prinkipo Greek Orphanage on Princes’ Islands in Turkey,
  7. and The Grimsby Ice Factory in the United Kingdom
These gems of Europe’s cultural heritage present serious conservation states due to negligence, inadequate development or the lack resources. Europa Nostra will provide a multidisciplinary team of specialists that will formulate feasible action plans for the listed sites.

Maestro Plácido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra, stated: “This newest list of 7 Most Endangered comprises rare treasures of Europe’s cultural heritage that are in danger of being lost. The local communities are deeply committed to preserving these important examples of our shared heritage but need broader European support. I therefore call on local, regional, national and European stakeholders, both public and private, to join forces to secure a viable future for these sites.”[1]

It has been demonstrated that the raise of public and private awareness has the capacity of engaging investment opportunities in cultural heritage and generate multiple benefits that will notably resonate at the socio-economic levels.

This announcement resonated in yesterday’s  “Innovation and Cultural Heritage” Conference held the last March 20th , 2018 in the Royal Museum of Arts and History in Brussels. The conference showcasted a dialogue between politicians, museum curators and scientists presenting their most promising innovations, success stories, future challenges and policy development in the field of cultural heritage.

Fundación Lumbreras-Coleccion Adrastus, as member of this leading heritage organization, joins Europa Nostra’s efforts by promoting a sense of awareness of such sites, as well as other heritage venues in grave danger such as the Jesuit Chapel and School in Arévalo, Spain. With this publication, we aim to encourage worldwide citizens to discover and engage with Europa Nostra’s mission and our  philanthropic project for the creation of COLLEGIUM.
