CG Receives Multi-Year Grant from DCYF

Grant will support our environmental and nutritional programming for elementary and middle school students
Last month we were awarded a 5-year grant from the Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF) to support our Seed to Mouth Garden Education Program. Starting in July, we'll be rolling out a new collaborative curriculum which further combines our environmental and gardening lessons with our nutrition and cooking classes. Thank you, DCYF! Highlights:
- 91% of our in-school garden education students increased their science test scores
- 80% of our kids who participated in cooking and nutrition classes said they ate more healthy foods
- 75% of BEETS teens continued their education or acquired higher paying jobs

BEETS Grow in Our Neighborhood
Spring is in the air and, with all the sunshine, our gardens are flourishing! But the sun isn’t the only reason the gardens are looking so fresh — the BEETS have been out in the gardens planting, watering, weeding, and cleaning to make our spaces more healthy and inviting.

Finding Inner Peas: Yoga and Salad at Rosa Parks
This winter, students at Rosa Parks Elementary joined Seed-to-Mouth Garden Educator, Annie, for yoga sessions and salad days in the Lower Garden. To encourage kids to spend more outdoors, Annie introduced several new fun activities during recess and lunch time.

A Night of Celebration and Thanks
Wednesday, October 4, 2017 was an amazing night to celebrate 23 years of CommunityGrows and Barbara Wenger’s retirement as Founder and Executive Director. Friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, and city officials gathered to show their appreciation for all that Barb accomplished in the community over two decades!
