Using Videos for
Teaching & Learning

This edition of the Digital Learning Newsletter is all about creating and using videos!
On this recent DL Radio podcast, we shared our favorite ideas for using videos, so here are a few additional resources to enhance that episode.

We briefly shared this idea on the podcast episode, and it's a quick win for videos. Alice Keeler created this Chrome Extension for video feedback. Click the extension, click start, and the video immediately begins recording. You may record up to 90-seconds. Once you stop recording, the video saves in a folder in your Google Drive, and the video's shortened URL is automatically copied to your clipboard. One-click + an efficient feedback tool = quick win!
We mentioned this tool on our podcast when Al shared the "Please don't make me repeat myself!" playlist idea, and there are many ways to use this tool.

If you (or your students) wish to create videos that are a bit more polished, you may want to add music or animations.
The YouTube Audio Library includes hundreds of free songs and sound effects that you may download for your project. The Free Music Archive is another place to find music and sounds that are copyright friendly.
You can create animations using transitions in slides. Try Morph in PowerPoint or Magic Move in Keynote. Check out the #magicmovechallenge on Twitter to see examples of some amazing animations!

In our podcast episode, we did not address how you could make videos interactive, but there are many ways to do so. Playposit and EdPuzzle are two similar tools that allow you to insert questions into pre-made videos. This blog post includes a great comparison chart of the two tools.
Spiral Clip is a tool that allows students to comment and answer questions while watching a video.
If you want to share a pre-made video with your students, try one of these tools to help engage your students.

Our 24th Annual Region 10 Tech Conference will be Monday, June 11, 2018. (Did you catch the new date?) We're also at a new location: Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway.
Our keynote speaker will be John Spencer, author of the book Empower.
We're accepting presentation proposals until April 1. We also have space for an exhibit hall, and vendors may register here.
