SATA Trails Society is pleased and excited to announce that the Provincial Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has officially awarded it the authority to construct, maintain and operate the Gaetz Brook Greenway in accordance with conditions established by the DNR. This multi-use, non-motorized, active transportation greenway will be developed on the former abandoned CN rail corridor from East Chezzetcook to the rail corridor junction at Highway #7.
The construction plans for the trail include a 5-meter-wide cleared trail, structural improvement on existing steel bridges, repair of eroded and wet condition to create a dry, firm and smooth travel surface, and addition of signage and rest areas. The trail will offer safe, easy travel for active transportation users of all ages and abilities whether individually or with friends or family.
Work will begin in the next few months with the repair of the three steel bridges as well as detailed design work. Updates will be available on the ShoreAt.ca website and at the annual general meeting of the Shore Active Transportation Association and SATA Trails Society in June.
We thank everyone who has provided their time, and input through this process to help make this possible. There is still lots to do and we will be looking for volunteers for a variety of tasks including communications, funding work and trail design input.
SATA Trails is proud to be a part of developing this Greenway, which will be an important active transportation link in the provincial network as well as a valuable community asset for the Eastern Shore.
