Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

I hope you are having a wonderful Holy Week.  We are heading into the Triduum and Easter, during which we celebrate the passion, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus.  I encourage you to participate in the many ways this is celebrated in our parishes.  Tomorrow, our ASB choir will perform at Calvary Cemetery for their annual Holy Thursday service.  Our choir has provided this service for many years and are so grateful to Calvary for the opportunity to continue this tradition.  Please see the ASB News section below for more information.  I am sure they would love to see you there!

Speaking of parishes, please remember that your family hours to the school include the service you provide your parishes.  Involvement in the parishes is an essential way to build our faith community and the connection with our school.  I particularly encourage our students to be involved as altar servers.  We need you to provide this important service, and it is a terrific way to experience mass at a different level.  Parents, not only can your student count their altar serving towards their required middle school hours, you can also count it toward your family service hours!

A quick reminder that we would love to have registration paperwork returned by Friday at noon.  Not only will your children get free dress coupons, you will also have the relief of not having all of that paperwork to worry about as you head into spring break!

As we head into the break, I have some exciting announcements to make in regards to staffing.  Suzanna Olsen, our KA teacher, will be graduating from kindergarten with her students and moving into first grade.  Suzanna’s experience prior to ASB was in first grade classrooms.  She is excited to make this change and spend more time with so many of our wonderful kindergarten students!  To make it even better, our lovely Mrs. Hurley will be working with Suzanna and the first grade team through the remainder of this year and next year to ensure our first graders have a stellar experience!  I am also thrilled to announce that Lexi DiJulio will be re-joining our faculty as the KA teacher.  Lexi has enjoyed her year in San Francisco, but is quite excited to come back home to ASB and our kindergarten team!  I feel so fortunate that we have these highly-capable, dedicated professionals here at ASB.

Finally, I would like to thank our seventh graders in advance for the Stations of the Cross presentations they will be leading on Friday.  This has been a wonderful tradition at ASB that not only provides a leadership opportunity for the seventh graders, but also unites our students and staff in prayer and remembrance of Jesus’s sacrifice for each of us.

I wish you all a blessed Easter and break that is full of relaxation and joy!

All my best,
Kathleen

The Camp ASB Summer Calendar is now available.  You can find the calendar on the ASB School website and it is included in this newsletter. Registrations and prepayments for Camp ASB, including registration for the Camp ASB Field Trips, are now being accepted. Some field trips have a limited number of space and it is important for those families that want their children to attend, or need their children to attend Camp ASB on those days, are free to secure their spots. This can be done by contacting me or indicating your needs on the Camp ASB Registration Forms.

As I announced last week, this summer Annie Hawksford and Suzanna Olsen, the current kindergarten teachers at ASB, will be running KinderCamp.

It will be an amazing opportunity for our incoming kindergarten students to attend KinderCamp that is being taught by the current kindergarten teachers, which is not always the case.  I would encourage all incoming Kindergarten families to consider registering for one or more of these sessions. Kinder Camp is a great opportunity for your incoming Kindergartner to get familiar with his or her classmates, the structure and style of ASB School and the actual facilities (playgrounds, bathrooms, classrooms).  The registration forms for Kinder Camp are located on the ASB School Webpage under the Extended Care link and they are also included in this newsletter.

Similar to last year,  KinderCamp will be held Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Session one will take place the second week of Camp ASB, June 11-15.
  • Session two will be held the last week of Camp ASB, July 30-August 3.
It is possible that we may add a third session of KinderCamp that will take place the week after the 4th of July, starting July 9 and finishing July 13.  However at this time we are not 100% certain that this session will be needed, or that we will have the resources to execute the third session.

Session One: Once Upon a Time… We will read, tell, create, illustrate, and act out stories. Each day a new story sets the stage for fun activities and investigations that spark campers’ curiosity and creativity. Experimenting with light and shadow, exploring nature, and dramatic play are integrated with children’s literature, as well as with math, art, and drama. (Session 1 will be held June 11-15, 2018)

Session Two: Construction Junction
Experiment with using various types of natural and man-made materials to create your own structures and inventions. How tall of a tower can you erect out of straws, or blocks, or cardboard boxes? How would you design and build your very own dream house? Language and art will be used in creating plans for construction. Physics and geometry will be explored as we use mathematical shapes and concepts to identify the science behind building. (Session 2 will be held July 30- August 3, 2018)

Session Three: If held will be developed and advertised to parents prior to Summer Vacation.

Please make sure to review the summer prepayment schedule included in the registration forms, as it will help relay the dates that Camp ASB will be open this summer.  If you have any questions about Extended Care or Camp ASB, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Proposed Amendment to Parent Board Bylaws: Change in Process for Collection of Parent Board Dues
As a parent or guardian of a student at Assumption-St. Bridget School, you are a valued member of the ASB Parent Association. Please review the following proposed change to the Parent Board bylaws. The proposed amendment will be voted on by ASB parents and guardians through an electronic ballot. The ballot will also contain the candidates for the 2018-19 Parent Board. It will be published in the weekly newsletter at the end of April.

Background
At the Parent Board March meeting, the Board voted to amend our bylaws to reflect the way Parent Board dues are collected. Rather than collecting dues once per year (as the bylaws currently state), we would like to amend the bylaws to indicate that Parent Board dues are paid over the course of 10 months through FACTS, reflecting our current process.

Proposed change:
ARTICLE II
Membership
2. Dues. Annual membership dues shall be set by resolution of the Board of Directors (as hereinafter defined) prior to the [start] end of [each] the prior school year and shall be payable [by October 1st.] in ten equal payments, July through April, along with tuition.

The most current version of the Parent Board bylaws can be found HERE  or on the ASB website under the Parent Board tab. If you have any questions about the proposed amendment, please contact the Parent Board Treasurer, Diane Othman  or Parent Board President, Nancy Belcher
