Keynote speakers announced for International Congress in Prague

Changes to online access to ISPCAN journal
ISPCAN members, you can now request to go paperless and access Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal online only. To do so, please log in to our website and fill out our Discontinue Paper Journal Request form.

Note that all members now must use their email address to access current and past issues of the journal, as ISPCAN no longer issue membership ID numbers. For instructions on how to log on as a first-time or returning user, click here.

 
Featured member resource: ISPCAN e-Learning Courses
In coordination with Augeo Academy, ISPCAN is pleased to offer to our members 11 e-Learning Courses on topics related to child abuse and neglect. The courses, five of which were produced by ISPCAN, and six by Augeo, are all online and presented by leading experts in the field. Topics include Communicating about Violence, Prevention and Early Recognition of Child Sexual Abuse,  The Importance of Medicine in Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse, Multidisciplinary Teams in the Field of Child Abuse and Neglect, Providing Support to Refugee Children, and more. To access a course, simply login in and click on the "Go to course" link below the course description, enter your name and email address, and the course will launch. Join us for our free April webinar with APSAC on psychological maltreatment
In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, ISPCAN is partnering with the American Professional Society on Abuse of Children (APSAC) to offer a free webinar on April 20 at 10:00 a.m. MDT (U.S.) on the topic, "Psychological Maltreatment  A Central Issue in Violence Against Children." This webinar will present the fundamentals of psychological maltreatment, including its nature, forms, impact, and possibilities for intervention. Our distinguished presenters will be:
  • Stuart Hart, PhD, Deputy Director of the International Institute for Child Rights and Development (IICRD), Victoria, BC (Canada)
  • Marla Brassard, PhD, Professor in the School Psychology Program at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York who has for more than 30 years researched the psychological maltreatment of children by parents, teachers, and peers
  • Amy J.L. Baker, PhD, director of research at the Fontana Center for Child Protection of the New York Foundling and co-author or author of eight books and more than 100 articles on the mental health needs of children in foster care, psychological maltreatment, and children of divorce.

ISPCAN Councilor Sue Foley wins Social Justice Award
Congratulations to ISPCAN Councilor Sue Foley for receiving the 2018 Social Justice Award from the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), New South Wales branch. In her 40+ years as a social worker, Sue has been an outspoken advocate in the area of child protection. She played a key role in the establishment of the Western Sydney Shaken Baby Prevention Project, a large-scale advocacy project that aims to educate and empower those who care for small children. Sue is currently the director of the NSW Children's Court Clinic, the first social worker to hold this position. Read more about Sue and the award here
