| It's been a fantastic month for campaigning and women raising their voices. We've had Million Women Rise, WOW Festival and one of the best days of the year, International Women's Day. At RASASC every day is women's day, where we campaign and fight for women's voices to be heard, for equality, freedom and our right to be treated with dignity and respect. |

Sadiq Khan publishes his strategy to tackle violence against women and girls
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has published his strategy to tackle violence against women and girls.
Recent statistics show that on average 11 women and girls are raped or sexually assaulted in each of the capital's 32 boroughs every week. As shocking as this is to hear, we also know that this is a small representation of the number of women and girls who are experiencing sexual violence within our capital.
Whilst the Mayor's new plan for a safer city for women and girls is welcomed, frontline services like Rape Crisis are experiencing significant increases in requests for support and the current funding available is nowhere near meeting the reality of the need.
Secure and long term sustainable funding is crucial to provide independent and specialist front line support services, as well as to prevent and eradicate violence against women and girls once and for all. |

Watch our #BreakTheSilence films
With the continued momentum around the powerful #MeToo and #TimesUp movement we wanted to share our #BreakTheSilence films. Initially launched in the summer of 2016 and featuring BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell, the short films show a survivor calling the National Rape Crisis Helpline, meeting with an Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA) at Rape Crisis South London, choosing to report to the police, and going to court to give evidence.
At a time when survivors are finding spaces to be heard, believed and accepted, this is an excellent resource to develop a clearer understanding of the criminal justice system and the specialist support available. The films are available to watch here » |
