The Cork Book è un libro sul sughero che racconta tutti gli aspetti di questo straordinario materiale. È stato curato da Filipe Alarcao per Amorim (Porto), primo produttore mondiale di sughero. Il volume porta in copertina la parola Co-Rk composta su due righe, come se fosse la sigla di un elemento chimico della tavola periodica, come il ferro (FE), il rame (CU) e l’oro (AU). Il colore stampato su tutte le facce, la texture in superficie, la proporzione del Cork Book presentano il sughero come elemento primario. Nelle pagine interne del libro vengono usati codici visivi contemporanei sovrapposti ad un linguaggio classico da enciclopedia ottocentesca. Il sughero è infatti questa dicotomia, un materiale lavorato allo stesso modo da migliaia di anni che però ha saputo sempre sviluppare nuovi e inaspettati utilizzi.
The Cork Book is a book about cork that tells all the aspects of this extraordinary material. Conceived by Filipe Alarcao for Amorim (Oporto), the world's leading producer of cork. The volume carries on the cover the word Co-Rk composed on two lines, as if it were the initials of a chemical element of the periodic table, as iron (FE), copper (CU) and gold (AU). The color printed on all the sides of the book, the textureed cover, the proportions of the book present the cork as a primary element. In the pages of the book, contemporary visual codes are used, superimposed on a classic nineteenth-century encyclopedia language. In fact cork represents this dichotomy, a material that has been worked in the same way for thousands years but has always been able to develop new and unexpected uses.
