Free School Meals - The Facts
This week Parliament debated the issue of Free School Meals and Universal Credit. I am passionate about giving support to pupils and families that need it most. I have been hugely disappointed that opposition parties have decided to play party politics over this issue. The Labour Party have said that these plans will see 1 million pupils lose their right to a free school meal. This is not correct and is misleading. In fact, the opposite is true. Rather than fewer pupils receiving free school meals, over 50,000 MORE will receive free school meals.
This is an important matter and it is important that we stick to the facts. I raised this matter in Parliament during the recent debate and you can see my contribution below.

STORM EMMA
Following the recent bad weather brought by Storm Emma, I would like to thank the communities across Mid Dorset and North Poole who came together brilliantly to support each other. The snow might have made Dorset look even more beautiful than it normally does, however it also brings with it significant challenges, especially for those who are elderly, disabled or isolated. I have been inspired by the neighbourliness that so many people have shown in help those within their community who needed it.
I also want to pay tribute to the work of the local authorities who kept working around the clock. The hard work and dedication of staff from all Dorset Councils, alongside the community groups, volunteers and farmers kept the key roads moving and got help to those who needed it most.
A consequence of the severe weather has been an increase in the number of potholes across the area. Local Councils have already repaired a large number of reported potholes but if you know of a pothole that has yet to be repaired you can report it by clicking on the clicks below.

Salisbury attack and Brexit negotiations.
I was pleased to be invited to take part in the latest broadcast of ‘The Last Word’ on ITV Meridan. This episode focuses on the big issues of the week including the unfolding chemical attack in Salisbury and Brexit which is now 1 year away.
I talk about the strong response given by the Prime Minister and the welcome support shown by neighbouring countries and allies. The program also focussed on the final year of the Brexit negotiations where I set out my hopes for a positive vision for Britain and explains why there should not be a second referendum.
