Dear Colleagues,
The Church of England’s vision for education continues to be warmly received as we set out our purpose in education: to enable the children, young people and communities we serve to flourish as they experience education for wisdom, hope, community and dignity and discover life in all its fullness which Jesus offers. That vision is at the core of the different items you will find in this bulletin, whether it’s our view on relationships education, the focus of our work with rural and small schools or the new SIAMS evaluation schedule which we have now finalised.
Your diocesan education team will have told you about the evaluation schedule and we have provided various updates as we have been developing it, but we are pleased that it is now ready for the training to commence in preparation for inspections next academic year. Look out for more details from your diocese about training and support.
Over the years, SIAMS has sought to provide Church schools with a tool for effective self-evaluation and a process of external review which enables continued development. We are confident that this new evaluation schedule, which now focuses unashamedly on vision, will allow governing bodies to place more of an emphasis on their purpose in education, ensuring that the school’s Christian vision impacts in ways which enable the whole school community to flourish.
That’s our aspiration for every part of our work in education and we are grateful for all that you do to make this a reality in schools across the country.
All good wishes,
Rev’d Nigel Genders
Chief Education Officer
