Welcome New Members!
A special welcome to all of the new members that joined over the course of this week as a result of the email from NRA to Virginia members.  VSSA appreciates your support.  As the NRA State Affiliate Association, our mission is similar to NRA's though focused on Virginia.  VSSA lobbies at the General Assembly every year, we sanction state shooting competitions, and we most importanly work to introduce the shooting sports to the next generation of shooters.  The eBullet is our weekly email newsletter to members.  We will not fill your email inbox with numerous emails - we send this one a week and it will include information specific to VSSA members as well as some news articles that we hope will be of interest to you as a gun owner.  The format includes a short blurb about the article and a "READ MORE" link so you can continue reading the article.  Articles may be about attacks on our rights, new products in the shooting and hunting arena, and training articles.  While you may unsubscribe at anytime from the VSSA member email list, please remember this is the main way that VSSA communicates with the membership.  VSSA moved to a digital form of member communication as have most other state associations.  If you unsubscribe from the email list, the only other communication you may receive will be the annual legislative fundraising letter (we only ask our members for financial support above annual dues once a year) and the letter announcing the VSSA Annual Meeting of Members.  Thank you again for your support of VSSA.  If at anytime you have a question about your membership, feel free to contact the office by phone or email.  If you have questions about the VSSA web site or have difficulty logging in to your account, please send an email to david.adams@myvssa.org.

Dave Kopel: Gun Ban for Young Adults Would Be Wholly Unconstitutional
VSSA
Dave Kopel, Research Director at the Independence Institute, and Joseph Greenlee, a fellow at the Millennial Policy Center in Denver, had an op/ed at The Hill earlier this week making the case that banning 18-20 year-olds from buying rifles and shotguns is unconstitutional.  READ MORE

Despite Heightened Fear Of School Shootings, It's Not A Growing Epidemic
NPR
The Parkland shooting last month has energized student activists, who are angry and frustrated over gun violence. But it's also contributed to the impression that school shootings are a growing epidemic in America.  In truth, they're not.  READ MORE

Why We Carry: Seminar Focuses on CCW for Newbies
American Rifleman
Something as simple as being aware of one’s surroundings, or even body positioning, can make the difference in surviving a life-or-death situation. For example, Director of NRA Competitive Shooting Cole McCulloch says that when he is in a bank, he angles his body in a way that he has a visual on the exit even while talking to the teller. The reason: One never knows when a robbery might occur. READ MORE

America’s Gun Violence Represents A Failure Of Leadership, Not Laws
The Federalist
Everything that happened in Florida that led to the horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is a lesson in leadership, or the lack of it. And solutions that focus on laws instead of leadership are bound to fail. The disgraced Broward County sheriff, Scott Israel, whose office repeatedly ignored pleas to arrest the killer before the massacre and told officers at the scene to stand down, deserves much of the blame for the mishandling of the Parkland shooter.  READ MORE

Skill Set: Slicing the Pie
The Tactical Wire
Searching for a threat is nerve racking.  Interior or exterior, it doesn’t matter.  A team can work it with a relative degree of safety.  Clearing and searching by yourself is extremely difficult, and to be avoided if possible.  Yet, sometimes clearing an area is necessary to get out of a bad place, find a family member or make sure the environment doesn’t contain any threats. Review: Rock Island Armory XT 22 Magnum
Guns and Ammo
When it comes to firearms, we consider a lot of ratios. The cost-benefit ratio. The weight-to-power ratio. The size-to-magazine-capacity ratio. But how often do we consider the fun-to-size ratio? Or the utility-to-disadvantaged ratio? After spending some time with the new Rock Island Armory (RIA) XT 22 Magnum, I can conclude that it scores high in the last two and doesn’t neglect the others. READ MORE

Gun Ownership Up, Accidental Shootings Fall
Julie Golob for America's First Freedom
Baffled. That’s the best way to describe the reaction by the liberal media outlets when they discover that statistics for accidental gun deaths are down, even as the number of Americans owning guns is at an all-time high. But somehow these media outlets, and their compatriots in groups like Michael Bloomberg’s so-called Everytown for Gun Safety, always have the answer: Despite the fact that many attempts by anti-gun politicians to enact more restrictions on Second Amendment-protected rights have failed, according to them, we can ultimately thank gun control for the decrease in accidents.  READ MORE
