Dear Chefs friends,

Believe it or not, wild food foraging has begun. Imagine living hundreds of years ago.. The first greens that emerge from the bear ground would be celebrated and sought after. After a long cold winter and what has already been a late spring, the longer days of mid march are ushering in some of the earliest greens and goodies for the season.

This upcoming week will be my first delivery to you all and I hope to tickle your chef tastebuds with the earliest of the earliest. That being said, availability is limited. This time of year only the earliest of the earliest spots with south facing slopes and great sunlight have only a few lbs of items to harvest from.

Also of special note: I will deliver on Tuesday evening this next week. Looking ahead deliveries will be on Thursday but next week the forecast calls for a lot of snow on Wednesday and it wouldn't be possible to harvest and deliver then. This first harvest week is really an opportunity for me to dust off the old cutting shears and get out into the field to see what we can get. Its really a labor of love this time of year because the amount of time it takes to harvest a lb of some of this stuff is difficult and arduous! But we love it :)

So here is the first list of available items for this week. If you'd like a box with some of these items and it doesn't matter which let me know. Please keep your orders above $35 dollars for the delivery. Thanks! and let me know by monday morning... i will be going out Monday for Tuesday delivery.

Garlic Mustard whole plant: $13lb. The whole plant (root and the leaves) harvested together. The root can be used as a horse radish substitute. Washed and delivered bunched

Patience Dock: $8lb. Spinach Substitute. Big Leaves (about the size of chard or a little smaller), Creamy when cooked.

Nettles: $22lb. This king of wild foods is just emerging. the price will fall but get these early sprouted beauties for your amazing green (highest plant source of iron)

Bronze Fennel Fronds: $5 oz. This wonderful frilly sprout makes a nice garnish and great for deserts (limited)

Day Lily Shoots and roots $25 lb. Cleaned and ready to use. can be used like a potato and/or pickled

WIld Onion tops (onion grass) $4 oz. just the tops. the roots are too small now.

Lesser Celandine (AKA Pile Wort) $22 lb (whole plant)  http://www.naturalmedicinalherbs.net/herbs/r/ranunculus-ficaria=lesser-celandine.php
This is one I rarely sell. It's usually one of the first to flower and from my research not to be used after it flowers. This cold spring has allowed for the leaves to pop up and hang out a while before the flower so Id like you to try if you would like. The roots can also be used. See the website linked.
