MFM Member Newsletter #15

Hello Dear Members,
How are you all today?

Let's start with good news:

1. as a MFM member David Belmont (photo below on the left) joined the Board Of Directors and Ken Hartfield (photo below on the right) the Advisory Committee.

2. The MFM Jazz Musician Meetings #1, #2 and #3 with Billy Harper have developed to informative, powerful and high quality meetings. Respected jazz musicians, such as Joe Lovano, Jimmy Owens, Ricky Ford, Ken Hatfield, Blue Ray, Cynthia Scott, Robbi K Hall, Stanley Banks, Oran Etkin and many others attended. After analyzing the three meetings Billy felt that in order to get more more musicians to our meetings, we should invite not only jazz musicians but also MFM members and non affiliated musicians. So we changed the title of our event to: MFM Public Musicians Meeting.

So all of you coming to NY or residing in NY are invited to the next one which is dated for Tuesday, March 27Th. The event details including the agenda are below or here: http://musiciansformusicians.org/jazz-musicians-meeting/mfm-public-musicians-forum-4/.
Due to space limitation please RSVP here: sohrab@MusiciansForMusicians.org.

Here is a report of the last "meeting," written by Dawoud: http://musiciansformusicians.org/jazz-musicians-meeting/the-mfm-jazz-musicians-meeting-3-laying-the-groundwork-for-action/.

3. This week I started to work with GoDaddy to remake the MFM website including the cover page, member portal and eCommerce. Hopefully by the end of next month you will have the chance to get access to the website and the member portal.

Kind reminders: 1. try to dig the Music Modernization Act (MMA); and 2. participate in MFM Fb's group "MFM Social Network Platform" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1986481551623837/permalink/2015878588684133/). A platform for you to social network. Post whatever you like and start communicating with each other. Networking is very important. And 3. is there no female member interested in running a MFM Female Musicians Caucus?

In music and solidarity,
Sohrab

MFM Public Musicians Forum #4

“Musicians - we have to stop being so proud of being "very independent" and realize that: We are not alone. We are connected as in group of jazz musicians or, just group of musicians.
Like it or not ...... it has been the "negative stigma" placed on us as a "group".
Therefore, it is necessary for us to "join together" ....for our own good.
To end: let us learn how to support each other!
Wouldn't that be great ... after being taught to "fight and compete with each other?"
- Billy Harper
