Dear Parents, Caregivers & Friends of the College

Our communication to you is very important to us and we want to ensure you are all receiving it.  As a College we are increasingly using email as one of our main areas of communication.    Therefore it is essential we have your correct email address.  Please ensure you contact the College Office 578 4029 or s.sowman@tbc.school.nz if you change your email address or are not receiving our communications.  Please note that you are able to request reports to be mailed out to you in printed form and newsletters are available at the College Office for your son to pick up if that is your preference.

Interim Reports / Parent Portal

On Friday 9th, parents should have received an email advising them that their sons interim report was available to access on the TBC Parent Portal on our website.  Instructions on how to view this report were included in this email - "To view this report you will need to log in using your Username and Password below, and then select "Reports" from the dashboard".

See illustration below.  Your son's username and password was included in the email.

If you require your son's username and password, your son can request this information from his teachers at the College.

These reports are an indication of how your son has settled into the academic year, not an indication of academic achievement as only limited assessment has occurred at this time.  They show how he has begun the year and give you the opportunity to engage, encourage those who have started well, and address any concerns with those who have not started well.

If you have any concerns as a result of the report information I would recommend you contact your son's Academic Tutor or class teacher so issues can be addressed early in the year.

Tutors:

Year 9    Mr P Young
Year 10    Mr H Deacon
Year 11    Mr M Orchard
Year 12    Mr G Hyett
Year 13    Ms R Elmes

The Parent Portal also allows parents to view their son's timetable, attendance, academic results, fees, as well as other useful information relating to his schooling.  Email addresses of teachers are in the form ....  a.smith@tbc.school.nz

Surf Lifesaving

Results from Nationals last weekend:

Declan Dempster, Thomas Scott and Daniel Shanahan all walked away with medals (2 gold for Daniel), and all three made the NZ Youth team.

All athletes who  go to Nationals have to have completed a minimum of 40+ volunteer patrol hours on our beaches to be even eligible to compete - which is a wonderful effort on top of their training, school work and paid jobs.

Congratulations boys!

TBC Debating

Our region held the largest regional round this year with 22 teams competing.

Our 1st team consisting of Kale Adair, Fletcher Oxford, Hamish Gleeson and Johnathan Coe won all four of their debates in the round finishing with the highest points in the tournament, before the break for the finals. They won the final with a unanimous decision from the panel of three.  Kale Adair was named best speaker of the tournament and will lead the team that heads down to Wellington for the next stage of the competition. Year 9 Māori Parents Evening

Kia ora to all parents, whanau and boys who attended the Year 9 Māori Parents Evening on Wednesday 14th.  Over 150 people were in attendance with strong support from whanau.  A feature of the evening was our young Māori leaders from Year 12 and Year 13 who spoke about their journey through the College and their aspirations for the future.  The young men represented the College with pride and gave a strong message about a sense of belonging to the College.  My thanks to these young men for their service to the College.

TBC 60th Jubilee  -  Labour Weekend
Friday 19th, Saturday 20th,  Sunday 21st October 2018

Tauranga Boys' College  - Old Boys' Association

The Tauranga Boys’ College Old Boys’ Association began in 2008 when we celebrated our 50th Jubilee. Since that time we have developed an Old Boys' database to which is sent a newsletter every couple of months detailing what is going on at school as well as with our Old Boys' scattered all around the globe.

Many of our students have family members who have previously attended Tauranga Boys' College and it would be great to have their details on our Database too. If you are an Old Boy or know Old Boys' who are not on our database then please e-mail details to Rob Leslie on r.leslie@tbc.school.nz who is the Staff Representative on the Old Boys Committee.  If you are on Facebook the TBC Old Boys has a page there as well which you may find of interest.

These connections are of particular importance this year as we will celebrate our 60th Jubilee with a Weekend of celebrations at Labour Weekend (October 19th to 21st) so please pass on these details to all of your TBC Old Boy mates!
