Old Vine Project

MARCH NEWSLETTER

It has been a busy month for all of us at the Old Vine Project (OVP) with the harvest in full swing, US Woordfees tastings, and planning our first trade and media tasting in April.

US Woordfees tastings by the numbers
The OVP was invited back this year to present a series of Old Vine tastings as part of the official festival programme. Both events, held at Spek en Bone and Tokara respectively, were a tremendous success. Guests were very impressed with the wines, the stories and, of course, the food was an experience in itself at both venues.

The tasting at Spek en Bone got coverage on LitNet and the Tokara event was covered by a CNN crew who were here for two weeks to shoot a documentary on the OVP.

CERTIFIED HERITAGE VINEYARDS SEAL
We believe in the value proposition of the seal and want to encourage our members to add it their branding; either on the neck or on the back label of your Old Vine wines.
For more details on how to go about doing it, please refer to the membership agreement's pages 7 and 8.
We also suggest that you use the Old Vine branding as part of your email signature.  Email Christina for the artwork.

SAVE THE DATE:  20 April 2018

There will be a trade and media event, held at DeWarenmarkt, Stellenbosch on 20 April 2018 from 11am - 1pm, in which the value proposition of the seal will be explained, followed by an informal walk-around tasting of OVP member’s wines.  We will communicate the details of the tasting at a later date and look forward to seeing you there.

CAPE WINE 2018

The OVP has booked a stand at Cape Wine 2018.
Would you like to participate?

The OVP wants to preserve vines older than 35 years by creating an awareness of the heritage of old vines. Having a presence at Cape Wine 2018 will offer domestic and international trade and media the opportunity to taste these wines, across a diverse range of styles.

The goal of participation in Cape Wine 2018 is to:
  • Promote the OVP, what it stands for and the generic marketing of Old Vine wines.
  • Explain the history and the wines that are made from these heritage sites.
  • Build awareness of the need to preserve our viticultural heritage and how these sites give insights to dry-land farming and drought resistance.
  • Encourage the sentiment of planting to grow old.
The concept:
  • OVP staff (André Morgenthal and Christina Harvett) will man the 2x3m stand.
  • Participation will be pay-to-play, for a maximum of 2 wines per participant.
  • Participants will receive exhibitor badges.
  • Participation cost: R3 000.
  • Participants need to be paid-up WOSA members.
The OVP will also host a seminar, presented by André Morgenthal and a team of experts, to discuss inter alia what we’ve learnt as farmers from old vines during climate. The wines poured during the seminar will only be selected from the wines available on the stand.

Please email André if you would like to sign up.
