If you or a loved one has ever received assistance from the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) in California (known as SHIP nationwide), please urge your Senator's and Representative to help save this program. This week, Congress is working to finalize the FY18 funding package, including funding for SHIPs. While the Senate appropriations committee has proposed level funding for this year (FY18), the President and the House have both called for eliminating the program entirely. Read more.

Speaking Out Against Senior Scams at Senate Aging Committee
One of our partners, Adrienne Omansky, Founder and Director of Stop Senior Scams Acting Program (SSSAP) testified in front of the Senate Aging Committee about senior scams and how their acting troupe is making a difference in combating fraud. Their troupe has 27 actors ages 64 to 99 with a repertoire of 26 skits, including some of our Medicare fraud skits. Senior Equity – Raise the Medi-Cal Aged & Disabled Income Limit to Same Limit as Other Adults
California Health Advocates submitted this letter requesting the Legislature appropriate $30 million to raise the income level of the Medi-Cal Aged & Disabled program (A&D program) to 138% FPL, creating a “brightline” of Medi-Cal income eligibility. This will create parity between senior and disabled Medi-Cal beneficiaries, and other adult Medi-Cal beneficiaries. Read more.
