Background

On October 21, 2010, the Minister of Canadian Heritage officially declared April 6 as Tartan Day. In Canada, the day originated in the late 1980s in Nova Scotia, where it was declared an official day by the provincial government. It then spread across the country, with many provinces joining in

Secondary Plan
At Tuesday's March 27th meeting, Council adopted the Transit Station Secondary Plan and that the amendment be forwarded to Niagara Region for approval. The extension of GO Transit in Niagara Falls is a substantial investment which should act as a catalyst to redevelopment in the Plan Area (within an 800m radius of the existing VIA Rail station). The Secondary Plan is a 20-year vision for the Plan Area and provides a policy framework that will guide development to achieve the vision.

More specifically, the Plan contains a number of key components:
  • Vision and guiding principles for the Plan Area.
  • A land use plan.
  • A comprehensive set of policies related to the specific land uses, urban design, transportation and implementation.
  • Building height strategy.
  • Public realm improvement policies.
  • Transportation and active transportation plans.
