MANITOBA COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION

CO-OP CONNECTIONS

MARCH 2018 EDITION

"A Silent Transformation" Film Screening

The Manitoba Cooperative Association, and our partners at CDEM Manitoba, the Canadian CED Network, and Assiniboine Credit Union invite all to join us on Tuesday, March 20th for a free screening of A Silent Transformation.

Created by Simon Brothers, Luke Mistruzzi, Anton Smolski and Mark Preston, of Powerline Films, this is a film about the transformative power of the cooperative enterprise model.

The cooperative movement was built by people who took on the responsibility for their collective well being in the face of government neglect, economic exclusion and cultural discrimination. As the modern economy increasingly denies vast sectors of the population basic amenities for decent life, this cooperative spirit is as critical as ever.

However, over the years the co-op sector has become insular and poorly understood. A Silent Transformation sets out to explore the innovative self-help efforts of different communities across the Province of Ontario. By addressing their needs collectively they are helping to regain the radical vision of co-operation.

In these communities are the seeds of economic democracy, global solidarity, and a new popular movement to transform society! Will it grow and flourish?

The event is free to the public, and following the screening there will be a panel discussion.

Register Now for the Co-op Youth Leadership Program

We are getting excited for the May 2018 Co-op Youth Leadership Retreat!  We have 3 and a half days of fun activities planned at the Riding Mountain Conference Centre (Camp Wannakumbac) from May 3 - 6, 2018.

The Co-op Youth Leadership Program has been around since 1985 and so many of the leaders within our co-ops have attended a retreat.  There is no better way to encourage leadership skills and passion for co-ops than to send a young person to this program.

Do you know a 15 - 18 year old who would like to meet young people from across Manitoba and develop and enhance their leadership skills? Or, are you a co-op or credit union who is interested in sponsoring a young person to attend the retreat? Please be sure to click here for more information and to download the registration and sponsorship information.

Nominate a Worthy Co-operator

We all know individuals who have been instrumental in the success of our co-ops.  Or do you know a co-op who has done a lot to further the understanding of co-ops in your community? Have you considered nominating them for an award?

The Manitoba Cooperative Association is currently accepting nominations for our 2018 Co-op Awards Program.

There are 4 award categories - some for individuals, others for co-ops.  You can learn more about the different award categories here.

Download a nomination package and be sure to get your nominations in by May 15, 2018.

We look forward to celebrating cooperative achievement with you at our Awards Banquet in October 2018.
