Jessica's Story
April 10, 2018

Jessica applied online for assistance and we quickly called to listen to her story. Here is what she said:

I am a single mom living with my aunt. I worked full time at a nursing home as a nursing assistant until my daughter Sophie was burned at the babysitter's house. She had second and third degree burns all over her body. I lost my job because I was there just under a year and couldn't get family leave while taking care of her.

I got evicted from our house because with the appointments and not working I couldn't make the rent. Sophie needed a lot of therapy since she was only a year old when this happened. I also have a son, Jeremy, who is 8 and was born without half of his heart.

Through all of this I have been going to night school to become a nurse and I should finish next summer. Any help you can give with soap and toiletries, coats and clothes would be great since I can't afford anything right now. I know soon things will get better.

We don’t want Jessica to leave nursing school because she doesn’t have soap to be clean or clothing for her children.

The clothing we wear and the personal hygiene items we use every day might seem like small things. But they’re huge things when you don’t have them.

We want to encourage Jessica’s drive and determination; she shouldn’t be held back from achieving her dream due to a lack of basic necessities.

With your help we provided over 40,000 hygiene products last year.

Help families like this one by running a collection or making a donation.
