This is Chelsea, a new teacher moving to Sukhothai to teach English in a public elementary school. Faith and Chelsea were able to go strawberry picking in Chiang Mai while Chelsea was going through our training. It was a hot day but the berries were delicious!

Our teacher team is growing! We are excited to receive three more new teachers just before we head back to America for the summer. Please pray God sends more teachers to Thailand through Crossworld!

The Thailand Teacher Project Update
|
|
Since our previous update we have been testing out a training program for new teachers and learning the ropes for how to relate with schools and help teachers get their visas and work permits. We are also beginning plans for strategic growth of the Thailand Teacher Project. We've certainly made a few blunders and have also had to adjust our expectation for what working with Thai school administrators is like. The task set before us of being a bridge between the non-Christian Thai community and the small churches we work with has proven to be a difficult one, but one we believe strongly in.
The possibilities and potential impact of the Thailand Teacher Project is great, therefore, the relationships we make with schools and with community leaders is very important. Our teachers work to come alongside local churches and assist them in connecting with Thais who haven't yet heard the Gospel. Please pray that God leads us through this confusing cultural maze for His glory!

The majority of Thais have at least one Sanprapoom, or spirit house, on their property. Pious Thais will burn incense and leave and offerings for the spirits dwelling there on a daily basis. They make prayers for protection, health, and for success. These "protective spirits" are generally thought to primarily be good, and only choose to help.
Though honoring and making offerings to spirits is not directly in the Buddhist religion, nearly all Thais who practice Buddhism also revere and fear the spirit realm. Most Thais also have amulets, charms and other items believed to protect them and ward off evil spirits.
