The sunshine makes me feel bright and warm
The sky is blue and clear
I run outdoors without a coat
Because Spring is finally here.
I LOVE being able to to finally go outdoors without bundling up. I love morning duty and watching the sun rise. And I love that we are able to utilize the outdoors as another classroom for our students. Yeah Spring!
Here are some other “Yeah" events coming our way this spring:
It’s time to get excited in PE. Excite will be here the first week of April to introduce the students to a variety of gymnastics, tumbling and exercise techniques. All students will have the opportunity to work with the Excite Staff during their PE time.
It’s also time to get excited about selecting some fabulous summer reading selections at our spring book fair. The student have previewed some of the selections that will be available and they are ready to dive in. We look forward to encouraging students to discover their love for reading through that perfect book. Watch for flyers for dates and times.
There is an opportunity to join us for "Lunch With Loved Ones" on Wednesday April 4th. Come join your child during lunch then some special shopping time at the fair! Parents, grandparents, or any other loves one is welcome to join!
Can you believe we are already at the end of the 3rd Nine Week Grading Period? Your kindergarten students are almost 1st graders and our fifth graders are almost ready to leave us and pursue a life at middle school. Wow! Report cards will be coming home on Friday, April 6th if you request a hard copy. Otherwise, you simply need to look up your child’s grades on Skyward.
STAAR light, STAAR bright, how I wish a wish tonight. That all our students pass this test and show the world that we are great. The 4th graders will be taking the writing portion of the STAAR test on April 10th. Fifth graders will be taking STAAR math and reading on the 10th and 11th. We know the students are ready and will give it their best effort.
April 13th is Earth Day. Watch for classroom activities that are planned to help share our earth.
Sometimes, things just don’t go as planned and that is okay. Mistakes can be fixed. April 13th is going to be class picture retake day. When we received the class pictures, the quality was not where we wanted them to be. So, Lifetouch will be coming back to take new class pictures. If you have already ordered a class picture, your order is still intact.
April 17th- 3rd grade is going to Elm Fork Outdoor School. The students will learn about the local history “What was here in early Denton?” The students will uncover artifacts such as bricks, charred wood, leather, ceramic, and more. The students will use tools such as tape measures, bags, and tags, in order to measure and categorize their artifacts.
Buzzzzzz, swat, buzzzzz. Our Fifth Graders will be presenting Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ear on Thursday, April 19th at 2:00pm for the student body and again at 6:00pm for parents, guardians, grandparents etc. Come see the truth about the myth.
April 20th is a bad weather day so school will be closed.
Do you think it is too early to start planting the seed for higher education with elementary students? We don’t! The week of April 23 is College Awareness Week. Our Counselor, Mrs. Eatwell has a myriad of activities to help students start thinking about educational life choices, setting goals and peaking their interest in career choices and college.
Do you have your background check ready? We are heading into spring and that means Field Trip Time!!!! Some simple reminders: all parents must have a current background check, siblings are not allowed (we want you to be able to enjoy the experience with your grade level children), in most situations parents are required to ride the bus with the students so that you can get to know the students in your group, students are never allowed to leave a field trip with a parent or guardian; because they are our responsible through the end of the day and the most important reminder- have fun. This is a fabulous opportunity to watch your children collaborate with peers and learn in a different school environment.
Woolly Mammoths, Texas geology, water cycle, ecosystems, rocks, minerals and hands on science. Those are just a few of the many curriculum items our 5th graders wil be exposed to as they learn and explore during their field trip. They are headed to “Water Rocks” in Waco and Georgetown on Tuesday, April 24th.
On April 26th. Fourth grade students will head to Ft Worth to enhance their Social Studies curriculum as they learn more about Texas.
Second graders are in the planning stages for their field trip to LELAND outdoor learning on April 27th.
Our last teacher luncheon will be in May - check your email for the link to sign up.
Oh My Gosh, It’s that time of the year again. Time to laugh, run, and get sprayed with colored chalk. Yep, it is time for the Annual Color Run and we hope to make this one bigger and better than last year. Flyers for registration of the color run have already gone out but we have more if you need them. We will also have an auction with items like Ranger Tickets, horseback riding, ice cream with your teacher or bidding on getting your name and birthday on the FME marquee. Not into running, not a problem. We will have bounce houses and obstacle courses, food and games available at the carnival. So, save the date and join the fun on Sunday, April 29th.
Thank you,
Gayle Nurre
